About the role

Do you have a passion for nursing? Do you want to extend your nursing knowledge? We have a training opportunity that may interest you! We are seeking a motivated Licensed Practical Nurse with a dedication for delivering compassionate patient care to join our team in the Operating Room department at Ksyen Regional Hospital.

In accordance with the established mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities of Northern Health, and under the general supervision of Manager or designate, the Licensed Practical Nurse, Operating Room, provides practical nursing services in an operating room environment as a member of an integrated surgical team performing varied surgical interventions. Consults, confers, and collaborates with other members of the surgical team in facilitating safe and effective surgical interventions through the performance of scrubbing and circulating duties in accordance with established standards and protocols. This includes pre-operative, operative, and post-operative activities such as assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and documenting client care, and providing support to clients and their families.

The Northern Health Regional Operating Room Education (RORE) uses a standardized, evidence informed on-line curriculum offered by the Association of Registered Nurses (AORN), called Perioperative 101. This curriculum is offered throughout British Columbia, contributing to a standardized provincial perioperative education program, along with provincial continuity of care and portability of practice. RORE combines AORN’s Perioperative 101 online curriculum with a skills lab and clinical preceptorship to help prepare nurses to provide safe and competent perioperative nursing care in both the scrub and circulating roles, at a novice level.

  • There are 6 training positions available for 2026/2027
  • Northern Health provides placement support and funding for tuition, textbooks, and travel expenses for clinical placements, as required
  • Learners should expect to make a 4-6 month commitment for this education, which includes online and in-person learning
  • Additional study time, outside of schedule hours, will be required to successfully complete the program
  • Flexibility for practicums is necessary
  • Applicants must successfully complete the education program prior to working in the department
  • Upon successful completion of the education program, Northern Health requires an eighteen (18) month return of service in a regular position in the area of nursing applicable to the education program.
  • Qualified applicants will be considered first for specialty positions. If there are no qualified applicants, training lines will be awarded to unqualified applicants and training will be provided

Shift Rotation/Hours of work: Monday to Friday, Days, 08:00 to 16:00
