Position Purpose: The Seasonal Splash Island Attendant is responsible for provide assistance with respect to basic supervision and provide excellent customer service to all visitors and their families who attend the Splash Island wet play area and the Toronto Zoo in general. This position will assist and provide support in implementing the Strategic Plan.

Core Role Responsibilities:

  • Enforce all pertinent/ posted by-lows, policies/ procedures of Splash Island and the Toronto Zoo.
  • Assist with crowd control and supervision of children while in Splash Island.
  • Respond to emergency calls at Splash Island and neighbouring vicinity as directed.
  • Keep the Supervisor informed of all activities at Splash Island and the neighbouring vicinity.
  • Document all provided first aid assistance and special incidents in the assigned logbook.
  • Control access to Splash Island to children under 12 years of age with a guardian.
  • Prepare written documentation as required for shift start/end using assigned templates.
  • Maintain and clean Splash Island before opening to the public using assigned equipment.
  • Perform other related duties as directed/required.
  • Follows all policies and branch instructions.
  • Attends appropriate training as required.

Technical Knowledge and Skills:

  • Valid Standard or Emergency First Aid and Basic Rescuer CPR (level "C").
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Must have availability to be scheduled up to 40 hours/week (5 days / 8 hour shifts).
  • Previous experience working at a public attraction.
  • Good working knowledge of safety related legislation (OHSA).
  • AED training.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills, along with strong communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act and WHMIS legislation an asset.
  • Must be able to work weekends, shifts and holidays as scheduled.
  • Must be able to deal with staff and public in a courteous and efficient manner.
  • Capable of meeting the physical requirements of the position.
