Shift: Sunday to Thursday; 8:00pm-4:30am
SUMMARY
The Dispatch Float position is responsible for coordinating loads, drivers, deliveries, and pick-ups within the assigned service area, while supporting all dispatch and administrative functions at the terminal. This role ensures smooth, cost-effective, and customer-focused operations by covering dispatch and administrative duties as required.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Utilize Erb Transport’s dispatch systems to plan, monitor, and complete moves accurately and in real time.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of delivery schedules for the assigned terminal and throughout Ontario/Quebec.
- Coordinate timely pick-ups within the service area in collaboration with other Erb terminals.
- Dispatch drivers efficiently, ensuring compliance with company policies, hours-of-service regulations, and equipment availability.
- Plan and optimize loads for cost-effectiveness (e.g., direct deliveries, minimizing cross-dock, and routing directly to terminals).
- Consult with Regional Dispatch and dock personnel regarding equipment, load requirements, and customer obligations; prioritize moves accordingly.
- Answer incoming calls, respond to driver and customer inquiries, resolve delivery problems, and provide high-quality customer service at all times.
- Maintain clear communication with dispatch and traffic personnel to ensure timely and economical movement of freight.
- Cover a variety of dispatch and administrative functions, including Check-In, Routing, OSD, Appointments, Reception, and Customer Pickups.
- Track and update trailer locations within the dispatch system to ensure accurate records.
- Support terminal personnel with operational inquiries and provide assistance as needed.
- Communicate major customer, equipment, or staffing issues to management in a timely manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS
- Proven experience with computer-based dispatch systems (transportation industry preferred).
- Strong organizational and planning skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to remain composed under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to support customer service and collaboration.
- Ability to delegate and direct drivers in a professional, positive manner.
- Demonstrated teamwork, flexibility, and a proactive, positive attitude.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Standard workweek of 40 hours.
- Flexibility required to cover a variety of operational and administrative roles.
- Start times will vary based on coverage needs (e.g., vacation, sickness, holidays).
