Whitecap Resources Inc. ("Whitecap") is a Canadian oil & natural gas company that pays a monthly cash dividend to its shareholders. We have unconventional and conventional assets exclusively focused in Western Canada and the asset base includes the Weyburn EOR Project. As a majority owner and operator of the Weyburn EOR Project, annually we safely sequester approximately 1.5 million tonnes of CO 2 making it a unique project within our portfolio.

We currently employ 1,200 people, including our valued contract staff.

Position Overview Reporting to the Team Lead, Field Optimization Engineering, the Field Optimization Engineer will be an integral member of an asset-based, multi-disciplinary team providing support to Field Operations, Facility Engineering, and Operations Engineering. This role focuses on day-to-day production optimization, pipeline and facility bottlenecking, well workovers, and Operating Cost reduction initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • GENERAL

  • Primary contact for the Calgary Operations Engineers and Field Operations as it relates to base production; artificial lift, gathering systems, production optimization and operating costs

  • Safety and Regulatory – ensure safe and compliant operations, participate in safety programs

  • Cost Control – plan, track and optimize all capital and operating cost projects

  • PRODUCTION

  • Optimize base production using available tools (pump efficiencies, fluid levels, pump cards,…)

  • Support growth production plans while minimizing impacts to base production

  • Design and optimize artificial lift systems on new and existing wells

  • Identify and support small facility projects to optimize well production

  • Conduct regular detailed well reviews with field operations

  • WORKOVERS

  • Identify workover candidates through production data analysis and failure trends

  • Work with well servicing group to prepare well repair programs

  • Ensure recommended repairs adhere to Whitecap economic guidelines

  • Review post-workover results, optimize well performance, and document lessons learned for continuous improvement

  • OPERATING COSTS

  • Understand area and well operating costs; focus on the controllable cost drivers

  • Work within the team to improve operating costs through cost reduction or production improvement

  • Primary contact for optimization of chemical program

  • FACILITIES

  • Identify optimization opportunities in gathering systems and facilities to support base and growth production, work with Field Operations and Facilities Engineering on scope and execution plan

  • Liaise with Facility Engineer for project design and cost control

Qualifications

  • BSc Engineering preferred
  • 3 or more years’ experience; oil and gas experience would be beneficial but not required
  • Self-starter, hard working with a strong production and completions background
  • Facility experience is beneficial but not a requirement
  • Good communication skills and works well in a team environment
