An opportunity exists for a Bridge Engineer-in-Training to become part of our dynamic Transportation Engineering group in Winnipeg, Manitoba. In this position you’ll be an active member of our team working on small to large-scale multi-disciplinary projects under the guidance and supervision of a Professional Bridge Engineer. Working in our Winnipeg, Manitoba office, you will given the opportunity to further develop your skills in evaluating, selecting, specifying, and engineering bridge systems and products for a variety of transportation projects. This opportunity will allow the successful candidate to exercise their technical engineering skills while growing and having a say in the development of their own career at Stantec.
Stantec’s Transportation Team has a strong local presence but also participates in some of Stantec’s largest and most complex transportation projects. These projects encompass the entire life of the transportation structure – from feasibility studies through detailed design and construction oversight.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support project delivery through participating in the execution and delivery of transportation projects, including planning, preliminary design, and detailed design phases.
- Perform structural analysis and design for a variety of transportation structures, ensuring compliance with relevant codes and standards.
- Prepare design details, technical reports, and specifications for bridges and other transportation structures.
- Work closely with colleagues in a multi-disciplinary design office, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment.
- Conduct inspections of bridges, culverts, and other structures to assess their condition and support maintenance planning.
- Perform quantity calculations and develop cost estimates for project components.
- Collaborate with engineers, technologists, and technicians to fulfill transportation engineering responsibilities.
- Support intermediate and senior team members on transportation projects, contributing to both field and office activities.
- Assist the team in preparing technical proposals for new projects and opportunities.
- Aid project managers with general project management duties, including tracking scope, schedules, budgets, and deliverables.
- Provide on-site observation and oversight during the construction of transportation works to ensure quality and compliance.
- Perform other related duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the team and projects.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Basic understanding of general civil engineering design concepts with knowledge of relevant bridge design codes, particularly CHBDC and AASHTO.
- Familiarity with City of Winnipeg and MTI practice manuals, standards, and policies.
- Experience in structural routine inspections and Contract Administration would be considered a benefit.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D and other design software, including understanding of calculations performed by the software.
- Experience with structural modeling and design software such as SAP2000 or equivalent.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to interact effectively with internal and external team members, clients, and contractors.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize work effectively.
- Demonstrated initiative and ability to work independently and in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
- Enthusiastic attitude with interest in skills development and continual improvement.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Registered (or eligible to register) as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba (EGM).
- Valid Driver’s License and willingness to provide a driver’s abstract for review.
Education and Experience
- Minimum of bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from a recognized University with direct exposure to structural course work.
- Previous transportation experience is considered beneficial and can consist of co-op or summer terms in civil engineering related positions. Direct experience in transportation related positions such as construction, survey, or bridge design is considered an asset.
- Registered or working toward Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.)
- 0 – 4 years of related work experience. Previous bridge-related work experience is an asset.
Position is for full-time employment and will consist of both office work at our Winnipeg Portage Avenue office as well as field work.
