Rainy River Mine
Situated in beautiful northwestern Ontario, 65 km northwest of Fort Frances, the Rainy River Mine is an open pit and underground, gold and silver producing, residential mine site.

The Rainy River Mine, located adjacent to the Ontario / Minnesota border is 65 Kilometers northwest of Fort Frances, Ontario and is situated half way between Winnipeg, Manitoba and Thunder Bay, Ontario The area is home to more than 130 species of birds and large populations of moose, black bear and deer. About The Role

Schedule: 5/2 - 8 hours per day (Remote position with occasional travel)

Position Reports To: Chief Engineer - Open Pit

Position Overview:

The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing long-range mine plans and forecasts on a quarterly basis. These forecasts include developing budget plans for the open pit which are scheduled out to the end of the mine life. Pit and phase designs are modified to reflect pit progression, achieve production targets and revise based on new design parameters, such as updated geological information.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of quarterly and Life-Of-Mine (LOM) Plans

  • Prepare Year End Reserves

  • Supervise and mentor the Long-Range Planning EIT

  • Work closely with the Geotechnical team on pit wall and mine rock stockpile progression to develop designs ensuring worker safety and planning for sufficient external technical support

  • Provide technical direction for the mine related to operations strategy and implementation

  • Review and implement operational plans and design changes

  • Provide technical support where required

  • Communicate the mine plan to the open pit engineering and mine operations teams to meet long-range planning objectives

  • Coach and mentor the Engineering Interns (EITs), Surveyors and other department members

Other responsibilities will include:

  • Identifying critical risks in the long-range plan and developing mitigating actions

  • As part of a team, design and oversee the long range mine rock storage plans

  • Combining the open pit and underground forecasts to generate the overall mill ounce forecast

  • Coordinating open pit and underground mine development interactions

  • Assisting with budget planning, strategic planning and managing projects for operations.

  • Developing long-range dewatering plans

  • Developing site closure plans for mining related activities

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mining engineering or similar field and current registration or eligibility for membership with the PEO

  • Over 7 years of experience in mine engineering in an open pit environment

  • Strong experience in mine planning with an emphasis on operational execution

  • Previous geology/modelling experience is considered an asset

  • MineSight software skills are a must

  • Attention to detail with strong organizational skills

  • Proven analytical skills and ability to think strategically

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Team-oriented individual with strong leadership capabilities
