This is aquatic work in lifeguarding and instruction at an outdoor and/or indoor aquatic facility. An incumbent performs a variety of operational, instructional, lifeguard and maintenance tasks in offering instructional and recreation aquatic programs for all age groups. Duties are performed in accordance with established practices and procedures, exercising tact and firmness in dealing with patrons. Duties are carried out in a positive manner creating a fun environment where excellence in program delivery can be achieved. Work performance is evaluated by a supervisor on the quality of service provided and in terms of conformance with established practices and procedures.
Some of the key responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

Performs lifeguard duties, ensuring the safety of patrons utilizing the aquatic facility and supervising the use of the swimming and related recreation areas
-
Instructs, facilitates, and participates with the individual program delivery for a variety of aquatic recreation programs and services within established standards and guidelines, for all ages and for a variety of community groups and individuals with special needs
-
Prevents accidents or injury where possible and provides effective first aid treatment and follow-up in the event of accident or injury in and around the recreation facility
-
Prepares individual program plans for review by a supervisor for assigned recreation programs and services
-
Performs basic cleaning maintenance duties as assigned (i.e. hosing deck, hosing change rooms, cleaning staff areas, and cleaning steam room). Ensures that maintenance tasks are signed off upon completion
-
Performs basic pool maintenance duties (i.e. vacuuming pool, pool readings, etc.). Ensures that pool readings are completed as scheduled and that they are recorded. Any unusual pool readings are brought to a supervisor’s attention immediately

Organize and provides appropriate activities, games, events of interest to the users.

Organizes and ensures that the pool is set-up for scheduled activities and that user needs are sufficiently met.

Completes reports, statistics, and records

Assists with shift coverage as directed

Performs other related duties as required
The successful candidate for this position will have:

Candidates must be 16 years of age or older
-
National Lifeguard – Pool Option
-
Standard First Aid
-
Swim Instructor
-
Candidates must be available for interviews on April 13 or 14, 2026
