About Laadliyan
Laadliyan is a Canada-wide non-profit organization dedicated to celebrating and empowering South Asian daughters of all ages through education, engagement, and awareness. As Laadliyan continues to grow, we are seeking a dedicated, highly experienced Board Member to lead our fundraising and resource development efforts.
Role Summary
The Development Chair will play a crucial role in strengthening Laadliyan’s financial sustainability by supporting the development and execution of strategies to raise funds, with a special focus on major gifts, sponsorships, and community partnerships. This board member will collaborate closely with the Executive Director and other board members to ensure Laadliyan has the resources needed to deliver impactful programs and community initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Fundraising Strategy & Planning
Lead the development, implementation, and monitoring of Laadliyan’s annual fundraising plan in collaboration with the Executive Director. Identify and pursue diverse revenue streams (major gifts, grants, sponsorships, individual giving, and fundraising events).
Major Gift & Donor Relations
Personally identify, cultivate, and support solicitation of major gifts from new donors and sponsors. Support outreach efforts to corporations, community foundations, and individuals aligned with Laadliyan’s mission. Cultivate and steward relationships with current and potential donors to ensure long-term engagement.
Board & Community Engagement
Inspire and engage fellow board members to actively participate in fundraising efforts. Help plan and promote fundraising campaigns or donor appreciation events.
Grant & Sponsorship Development
Support the identification of funding opportunities and, where appropriate, assist in developing and reviewing proposals. Leverage personal and professional networks to connect Laadliyan with prospective sponsors and funders.
Strategic Guidance
Provide expertise, advice, and mentorship to strengthen Laadliyan’s long-term resource development capacity. Ensure alignment of fundraising efforts with Laadliyan’s mission, values, and equity-focused approach.
Qualifications & Skills
Experience: 7-10+ years of proven, senior-level experience in fundraising, business development, sales, or donor relations. Prior non-profit board experience is highly preferred. Established Network: An existing, robust network of philanthropic individuals or foundations, and corporate sponsors that can be leveraged to support Laadliyan’s mission. Action-Oriented: Demonstrated experience and willingness to personally solicit major gifts and lead outreach initiatives Mission Alignment: A strong passion for Laadliyan’s mission and a commitment to gender equity and community empowerment. Leadership: Strong relationship-building, networking, and interpersonal skills, combined with a creative, strategic, and collaborative mindset. Cultural Competency: Familiarity with South Asian communities and cultural contexts is an asset.
Time Commitment
Approximately 3-5 hours per month, for meetings, donor outreach, and strategic planning, (note: time commitment may be higher during campaign periods) Attendance at quarterly board meetings Attendance at Laadliyan’s major community and fundraising events

Founded in 2013, Laadliyan, Celebrating & Empowering Daughters is a non-profit organization in the Greater Toronto Area, promoting gender equity and girls' and women's empowerment in the South Asian Community.
As daughters who are familiar with the impacts gender inequality can have on young girls, we want to ensure our younger sisters in the community grow up feeling wanted, confident and independent. We are determined to provide South Asian females with positive experiences by fostering strong relationships and alliances. Through engagement, education and awareness, we encourage our community to celebrate daughters and to discuss the impacts son preference has on females of all ages.
