Project Planning & Coordination Manager

Number of positions: 1 Job Location: Surrey Construction

Employment type: Permanent Region: Lower Mainland

Hours of work: Full-time (37.5 hrs/wk) Flexible Work Role: Resident

Annual salary: $ 107,000.00 - 135,300.00

What you'll do

  • Oversee a team of construction technologists and a construction coordinator as part of the Project Planning and

Coordination (PPC) department within Construction Services. The team is located at two headquarters as follows: Nanaimo

District Office and Construction Services Surrey Office.

  • Facilitate the planning, coordination and delivery of construction projects of moderate size (up to$20M), diversity,

complexity, and risk.

  • Coordinate a multi-discipline workforce and provide on-boarding, training, instructions, technical leadership and guidance;

review work in progress and assess completed work for accuracy, completeness and consistency.

  • Ensure that all phases of construction work and associated activities related to assigned projects is carried out efficiently

and effectively in terms of planning, estimating, cost control, scheduling, reporting, quality, safety, environment, etc.

  • Ensure adequate construction technologists resources are in place to meet multi-year project and program plans.

  • Provide technical guidance and ensure adequate technical reviews are completed as required.

  • Assist in the development of business unit objectives, quality assurance standards, customer needs, and performance

measurements.

  • Conduct "Constructability Reviews" of projects throughout various phases in the project life-cycle.

  • Conduct regular construction site visits to receive feedback from field employees on the PPC department and to assist the

field with the application of Construction Service delivery practices.

  • In conjunction with Construction Services management team, develop strategies, project plans, budgets, schedules and

key performance indicators in order to accomplish project delivery

objectives.

What you bring

  • Related Bachelor degree OR Project Management certification or equivalent and/or courses in project management.

  • Seven (7) to nine (9) years related experience in a field of expertise within an electric utility or similar environment.

  • Proven project management knowledge, experience and skills.

  • Demonstrated technical knowledge of construction on civil, structural, mechanical and/or electrical work within a utility

environment.

  • Demonstrated organization, project planning and people management skills with ability to manage employees and

facilitate construction project(s) of considerable scope and complexity within approved scope, schedule and budget.

  • Knowledge of Hydro systems, policies and procedures, MoveUP and IBEW Collective Agreement, Contracting principles,

health & safety and environmental regulations relevant to utility construction skills are desirable.

  • Demonstrated commitment to providing strong work leadership and technical direction.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to relate and discuss issues with a range of professionals from trades people to

senior management.

  • Creativity and innovation in developing project management solutions, processes and procedures, procedures and

construction solutions desirable.

  • Must possess a valid Class 5: Driver's License.

  • Please note this position requires travel throughout the province that would require being away from your HQ for 2 days or

more days per visit. Typical travel would consist of frequent visits to the Nanaimo Office to visit your employees. Other

travel may consist of project site visits, annual team meetings, etc.
