About the role

Role Summary The commissioning manager provides specialized technical expertise and support on projects. Their role is to assist the project construction team in the development of a commissioning plan and schedule as well as overseeing the plan and monitoring the schedule for the duration of the project.

Beyond technical oversight, the Lead fosters collaboration across diverse teams, bringing clarity to the commissioning process and strengthening client trust. By championing quality, sustainability, and continuous improvement, the role not only safeguards the integrity of each project but also positions the organization as a leader in delivering reliable, high‑performing building solutions.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead, mentor, coach, train and provide advice to the construction project teams on the methods and requirements of commissioning activities.
  • Be an ambassador of the company and MNTI Commissioning process, both internally and externally.
  • The development of Commissioning plans and schedules for assigned projects.
  • Participate in the MNTI Commissioning department meetings and provide input into the development of new strategies and programs.
  • Review Specifications and drawings at onset of a project and provide a Commissioning Manager’s document review summary report (the Commissioning process and requirements, value engineering, scope and system performance/sequencing etc.)
  • Liaise with MNTI sub-trades, owners and clients on commissioning related matters.
  • Participate in, and / or conduct commissioning coordination meetings with the general contractor, third party commissioning agents and our own teams
  • Provide technical support to the construction project teams
  • Ensure that the MNTI project team is complying to all internal and external standards
  • Inspect the site and write commissioning inspection reports as required.
  • Assist the Project teams with the control of project costs.
  • Oversee the construction project team’s execution of the commissioning process for the duration of the project. Including: set-up of the commissioning binder, Piping and systems testing and procedures, review of all site documents related to commissioning
  • Ensure that all commissioning projects consider the most sustainable practices
  • Promote, support, and maintain Modern’s national quality programs throughout commissioning activities and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Must-haves:

  • At least 5 years experience commissioning in a large-scale commercial/industrial construction environment
  • Proven experience managing commissioning processes for complex systems in accordance with CSA or equivalent standards
  • Familiar with the various Canadian Standard Association’s (CSA) standards and codes including but not limited to: CSA-Z320-11 Building Commissioning, CSA Z8001 Hospital Commissioning, CSA Z317.02/ Z317.13 Infection Control, CSA C282 09 emergency power standards etc.
  • Familiar with other governing bodies’ standards including: ASHRAE’s standards and practices, TSSA Requirements and CEPA Standards
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong documentation and report writing skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Highly self-motivated and directed.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.

This is a new position and the salary range is $126,000 - $149,000 Modern Niagara offers a competitive total compensation package including:
