About the role

Do you want your work in health and safety to truly make a difference? Here's a role grounded in reality, at the heart of the St. Lawrence River and the Quebec territory.

Our client plays a vital role in maritime transportation, connecting remote communities like Anticosti and the Lower North Shore. Where the road ends, they take over — providing a lifeline, not just a service. They're committed to building a strong culture of prevention. That’s where you come in: working directly with senior management, you'll be their go-to HSE reference, bridging strategy and the field — from office to ship to the ports they serve.

If you're looking to explore the region, be part of something bigger, and keep people safe, this role is for you.

Main Responsibilities:

Health and Safety:

-       Implement corporate SST initiatives and contribute to the development of harmonized local procedures.

-       Conduct field tours, audits, and risk assessments at sites and on vessels (loading, handling, etc.).

-       Engage teams in promoting a proactive and human-centered prevention culture.

-       Design and deliver tailored, engaging, and easy-to-understand training.

-       Lead or support incident investigations and ensure follow-up.

-       Participate in local SST committees and the annual management system review.

-       Identify gaps, anticipate risks, and recommend viable and well-adapted corrective measures to the company’s culture.

-       Serve as a liaison and provide constructive and strategic information at the corporate level.

Environmental:

-       Support projects and systems aimed at reducing environmental impacts.

-       Participate in the collection of environmental performance indicators and audits.

-       Actively promote environmental protection to the crews.

-       Ensure compliance with practices in line with ISO requirements, if applicable.

Position Benefits:

-       Permanent position based in Rimouski, with flexible hours (37.5 hours per week).

-       Remote work possible up to 50% when operations allow.

-       Comprehensive collective insurance program (including dental coverage).

-       Retirement savings plan with employer contribution.

-       Employee assistance program and continuous training.

-       3 weeks of vacation upon starting.

-       3 floating days per year, mobile leave, sick days, and federal holidays.

-       Reimbursement of travel expenses (transportation, accommodation, car rental).

Requirements:

-       College degree in Occupational Health and Safety (DEC) or equivalent experience (minimum 4 years if no DEC).

-       Practical experience in SST prevention in operational environments (ideally maritime, industrial, or food processing sectors).

-       Strong knowledge of provincial and federal SST laws and regulations.

-       Ability to conduct rigorous risk assessments.

-       Knowledge of ISO, Lean/5S, WHMIS, confined spaces, lockout/tagout, working at heights.

Desired Profile:

-       Hybrid approach: ability to intervene directly on the field while having a comprehensive understanding of processes and regulatory requirements.

-       Natural interpersonal skills, autonomy, analytical mindset, and strong ability to quickly build trustful relationships.

-       Proactive vision, able to anticipate, propose practical solutions, and highlight positive outcomes to foster buy-in.

-       Strong communication skills, both in writing and orally, with the ability to simplify and engage.

-       Initiative-driven, focused on continuous improvement, and collaborative spirit;

-       Ability to adapt to a developing environment.

-       Awareness of the team’s pace of evolution: ability to adjust approach to maintain engagement.
