Description

The FAcT Air Operations Manager is responsible for the leadership, coordination, and execution of all flight operations functions supporting the Future Aircrew Training (FAcT) program. This includes oversight of dispatch, operational airworthiness processes, flight scheduling, long‑term planning, and close coordination with internal and external partners to ensure that flying operations are conducted safely, efficiently, and in alignment with program priorities, regulatory requirements, and RCAF expectations.

The role manages the Dispatch and Scheduling Team, providing leadership, direction, and mentorship while maintaining and updating Dispatch SOPs and ensuring compliance with operational airworthiness requirements. The Air Operations Manager leads the development of mid‑ to long‑term flight schedules in collaboration with DND Schedulers, Flight Authorization Officers, and 2 CFFTS, optimizing the utilization of aircraft, pilots, and instructor resources.

This position acts as the primary liaison with the Aircraft Maintenance Organization (AMO) for aircraft availability planning, maintenance repair party dispatch, and operational coordination. The role serves as the lead point of contact during aircraft diversions, weather disruptions, and unserviceability events, ensuring timely communication and effective operational response.

Additional responsibilities include maintaining operational records, such as aircrew qualifications and currencies, and providing data‑driven reporting to support pilot production forecasting across the Basic Flight Training (BFT) and Advanced Flight Training (AFT) streams. Through strong stakeholder alignment, the Air Operations Manager contributes to the overall safety, efficiency, and success of the FAcT flight training program.

  • Accurate operational records and data‑driven reporting supporting throughput
  • Strengthened coordination with 2 CFFTS, DND, AMO, and internal CAE partners
  • Consistent support to safe, efficient, high‑integrity flight operations

Reporting structure:

  • Reports to:*(Interim)Manager, CQFI //(Steady State)*Flight Training Operations Manager
  • Direct reports: 11 total — 4 Flight Dispatchers, 4 Training Schedulers, 2 Training Administrators, and 1 Tracking System Analyst

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5–8 years of job‑related experience within military flight operations
  • 5+ years of leadership experience, including managing operational teams
  • Post‑secondary education in a relevant field of study
  • Experience in flight operations, dispatch, or scheduling within a military aviation environment
  • Strong operational judgment and decision‑making in dynamic environments
  • Proven ability to manage stakeholder relationships across military, maintenance, and training organizations
  • Experience maintaining operational records, qualification tracking, or aircrew management documentation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience collaborating with DND Schedulers, Flight Authorization Officers, or 2 CFFTS
  • Experience working with aircraft maintenance organizations (AMO) or maintenance planning teams
  • Experience developing SOPs, operational policies, or airworthiness processes
  • Prior leadership of multi‑disciplinary operational teams
  • Familiarity with pilot production forecasting or data‑driven operations reporting
  • Experience handling operational disruptions such as weather, diversions, or unserviceability events
