About the team
The Saskatchewan Teachers Retirement Plan staff administer the pension plan that covers Saskatchewan teachers, ensuring they have a lifetime pension on retirement. The STRP staff use their professional skills to provide accurate calculations and support to teachers planning and during their retirement.
What you’ll do
Pension Technicians are responsible for a broad spectrum of pension activities. They are involved in pension administration and financial services. Pension Technicians will also communicate Plan provisions to members.
Responsibilities include:

Process incoming benefit payments, including purchase of service and voluntary contribution payments.

Process payout calculations and prepare cheque requisitions.

Prepare journal entries as required.
-
Extract and prepare member data; run the annual member statements for review by senior analyst.

Complete legislated reports and ensure filings are made in a timely manner as required by the applicable legislation.

Process monthly pension payments to retired members and related tax reporting.
-
Calculate annual pension adjustments, past service pension adjustments; and pension adjustment reversals.

Reconcile and remit weekly income tax remittances.
-
Reconcile quarterly Penfax reports to Accounting.

Answer inquiries and provides information regarding Plan provisions.

Meet with members to explain the benefits they are entitled to and what the options are in relation to those benefits in terms of the Plan Text.

Interpret information to determine a member’s eligibility for benefit entitlements and other pension rights such as purchases of service, transfers to other pension plans, etc.

Perform benefit estimate calculations for member supporting document packages.

Review, verify and process school board remittances received by STRP into automated pension administration system.

Prepare and provide school boards with regular edit/variance reports on incorrect member data.

Respond to school board inquiries on remittance information.

Perform monthly contribution reconciliations.

Update and maintain related sections of the STF Remittance Manual.
What you’ll bring
- An undergraduate degree in the area of business administration, economics or mathematics. 2-3 years of related pension experience is preferred.
- A Pension Plan Administration Certificate or equivalent is preferred. An incumbent without this designation will be required to enroll and continuously progress through the program to successful completion.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Interpersonal skills to interact with members, employees at all organizational levels and with officials of other organizations.
- Proficiency in Excel and Word.
- Effective communication skills.
- Demonstrated skill in arithmetic and mathematics.
- Ability to interpret and apply legislation, text, and policies.
- Mature judgment.
- Ability to work as a team member.
- Experience and/or training in an automated pension administration system is an asset.
- Knowledge of pension plan administration principles, techniques and practices is an asset.
