About Us JOB DESCRIPTION Incorporated in 1955, Ocean Steel has grown to become one of the largest steel fabricators in Eastern Canada and one of the most respected steel suppliers on the Eastern Seaboard. It services several markets, including all of Canada, the Eastern United States, Bermuda and the Caribbean. Ocean designs, fabricates and erects structural steel for buildings and bridges. It also manufactures and installs platework, such as breechings, stacks, ducts, penstocks, process & storage tanks and custom process-equipment. Ocean Steel has two, modern New Brunswick-based plants in Saint John and in Fredericton. We currently have sales offices in Saint John, New Brunswick, Brampton, Ontario, and Burlington, Massachusetts.
Job Summary This position works closely with the Procurement Manager to ensure that all steel material is in place to meet production schedules. This includes building material nests and running weekly recaps to ensure that any material required by the fabrication plants is received on time to suit project schedules. The Procurement Associate must maintain positive relationships with our vendors and maintain a detailed record of all purchase orders.
The ideal candidate must be highly organized, with the ability to proactively plan and multitask. This is a position that requires a solid understanding of operations combined with the desire to develop and maintain relationships both internally and externally . Responsibilities
- Batch and issue shop drawings to fabrication plants
 - Learn to use computer programs such as JDEwards, Strumis and Bluebeam
 - Issue purchase orders for miscellaneous project purchases
 - Recap projects weekly to ensure all materials required for upcoming batches are received on time for fabrication
 - Process shop paperwork related to consumption of inventory
 - Process revised shop drawings
 - Nest steel into purchasable lengths / bundles to ensure efficient buying / material usage
 - Expedite and arrange the pick-up or delivery of purchased items while keeping in mind project schedules
 - Work closely with the Procurement Specialist to purchase steel for projects from ABM (Advanced Bills of Material), field bolt lists or requisitions.
 
Technical Requirements
- Purchasing / supply chain and logistics experience or relevant post-secondary education
 - Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Microsoft Word & Excel
 - Experience in the Steel Industry would be considered an asset

- Exceptional time management and organizational skills
 - Desire to work well in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, and customer-focused environment
 
Cultural Requirements
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
 - A team player with the desire to work collaboratively with others
