About the Role
PowerCo Canada Inc. is seeking a skilled Manager of Assembly VSM to join our team for the battery cell production line in St. Thomas. In this role, you will be leading the Cell Assembly planning and production team, involved in the production of battery cell factories, covering process steps including notching, stacking, cell assembly processes, leakage test, material transport (conveyor system). You will report to Director of Production and Planning (Head of VSM - Block 1&2).
This position is in-person and located in the charming town of St. Thomas ON.
Key Responsibilities

Perform tasks related to cell assembly manufacturing for battery cell production plants, including notching, stacking, cell assembly processes, leakage test, material transport (conveyor system)

Responsible for building up Administrative and Front line teams in Assembly VSM for CP1 & CP2
-
Manage the process of equipment setup for Cell Assembly, commissioning and debug. Realize and improve key equipment functions including safety. efficiency, cycle time, yield, and reliability (cpk)

Collaborate with Technical Support departments to setup equipment requirements and definition of standards for the Standard Greenfield Factory ST Thomas.

Report plans, issues, operating results to Head of VSM, propose the improvement plans.

Collaborate with project management, construction planning, industrial engineering, PMO, HSE, logistic, Quality, HR, Finance (investment, taxes, etc.), Purchasing and Product Management and align common areas for realizing Cell Assembly tasks

Lead the equipment planning teams to perform process machine design, FAT, installation, commissioning, SAT, and ensure a smooth SOP
-
Guide the production team to join process machine installation, and create/release production standards/documents: Operation Instruction, Autonomous Maintenance, 5S instruction, etc.

Lead the team to support foreman to smooth implement production standard on shop floor

Ensure continuous improvement to reaching production KPI in Cell Assembly area

Train other employees and managers on technical and managerial topics

Develop cell production training plans

Provide technical support to task forces as needed

Act as proxy of Head of VSM 1 (Head of Production and Planning) when needed
What you bring to the Team
-
Bachelor’s degree or higher in in electrical, mechanical, materials, chemical or electrochemical engineering, or a related major.
-
Bachelor degree with 7+ years’ experience of working in Li ion battery cell industry, ideally within a global organization.
-
1+ years of experience on leading a team to work on Li ion battery manufacturing, planning and/or development
-
Direct experience in designing/planning Cell Assembly equipment and extensive experience in battery cell manufacturing.
-
Experience in leading projects, technical topics, teams.
-
Ability to follow through and make significant progress in a fast pace, dynamic environment.
-
Extensive experience in working in corporate suppliers-customer relationships, strong record of supplier management.
-
Experience in initial phase of a battery cell production plant would be considered an asset.
-
Working experience with automotive OEMs is an asset.
-
Action oriented work style and strong drive of results.

Integrity and value-driven working style, complaint to rules and regulation.

Adaptable to international teams with cross-cultural communication skills.

Ability to travel both within Canada/US and internationally up to ~ 20%.
