About the role

The City of Lethbridge is looking for an Infrastructure Project Engineer for our Capital Planning and Engineering Services team. The Infrastructure Project Engineer provides strategic leadership and technical expertise to support the planning, design, construction, and operation of municipal infrastructure systems. This role ensures infrastructure initiatives align with departmental priorities and the City’s overall strategy, vision, and goals.

Focused on delivering high-quality, sustainable outcomes, the position plays a key role in maintaining and expanding critical infrastructure to meet community needs. By upholding rigorous engineering standards, the Infrastructure Project Engineer helps ensure municipal systems are safe, reliable, and cost-effective for the long term.

STATUS: Full Time, Permanent HOURS OF WORK: 8 hours per day, Monday to Friday, with every third Friday off

In this role, you will: provide engineering expertise in the planning, design, construction, and operation of municipal infrastructure systems.

Strategic Planning · Contribute to long-term infrastructure planning for water, wastewater, stormwater, solid waste, and roadway systems, including operating budgets and capital improvement plans · Collaborate with Asset Management to support the development and evaluation of programs that align with corporate goals and objectives · Support the development of business plans, resource strategies, and action plans, including defining project scope, identifying priorities, and establishing execution approaches · Participate in benchmarking and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance service delivery and performance

Design & Technical Leadership · Develop, review, and approve engineering designs and plans for municipal infrastructure projects · Represent the Capital Planning and Engineering Services department at internal and external meetings with stakeholders · Manage capital and infrastructure projects from design through construction, ensuring quality, timelines, and budgets are met · Prepare and review tender documents, including plans, specifications, and contract requirements for engineering, construction, and procurement projects · Provide technical expertise and engineering support to operations and maintenance teams, including system analysis, reporting, and recommendations · Liaise with regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with applicable legislation, standards, and approvals · Prepare, review, and present technical reports and engineered designs · Support the ongoing development and enhancement of municipal design and construction standards

What You Bring to the Table Qualifications & Experience: · Completion of a Bachelors Degree in Engineering · Must be a registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in good standing with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) or have eligibility for membership · A minimum of 4 – 8 years of related experience with progressively increasing levels of responsibility · Previous project management and procurement experience within a municipal environment, and experience with capital budget management · Strong ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of internal stakeholders and the public · Demonstrated knowledge and experience in water, wastewater, and stormwater systems, including design, construction, materials, operations, and maintenance practices · Experience with the design and construction of municipal road infrastructure · Knowledge of solid waste systems and related operations · Solid understanding of applicable federal and provincial legislation, regulations, and engineering codes · Experience with hydraulic modeling and related analytical tools · Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present technical information to diverse audiences · Ability to collaborate effectively in team environments and contribute to workshops and group initiatives · Working knowledge of project management principles, with the ability to plan, execute, and deliver multiple projects simultaneously · Proven ability to prioritize competing demands and manage workloads effectively in a dynamic environment · Experience contributing to long-term planning and providing sound professional recommendations related to infrastructure systems, utility operations, and asset management · Strong leadership, critical thinking, and decision-making skills

Annual salary range for this position is expected to be $99,567.00 - $124,429.50, commensurate with experience.
