The Protective Services Supervisor is responsible for providing direction, support, and guidance throughout the shift to frontline Protective Services Guards, hospital staff, patients, and visitors at North Bay Regional Health Centre across all facilities. The Protective Services Supervisor is accountable for all aspects of detachment operations during the assigned shift. Additional duties may include:
- As Supervisor, responsible for security processes and for ensuring the safety of Protective Services staff, employees, physicians, visitors, and patients
- Conduct investigations at the direction of the Protective Services Manager using available security resources
- Release evidence to Police, Lawyers, or other investigators with approval from the Privacy Coordinator
- Initiate investigations in accordance with all federal, provincial, and municipal legislation, as well as hospital policies and procedures
- Provide staff with training, personal protective equipment (PPE), education, and orientation sessions
QUALIFICATIONS
Certification/Experience/Knowledge:
- Diploma or Degree in Law and Security, Police Foundations, Corrections, Community Justice or Protection, Security and Investigation, or related experience required
- Valid Ontario Security Licence (Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services certification for Security Guard) as regulated under the Private Security and Investigative Services Act (PSISA) required
- Current First Aid and CPR certification completed within the last year required
- Minimum 5 years recent related experience within a healthcare environment required
- Valid Class G driver’s licence and clear driver’s abstract required
Skills/Abilities:
- Demonstrated understanding of applicable rules, laws, by-laws, and regulations
- Knowledge of the Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA), Public Hospitals Act, and Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA)
- Demonstrated awareness of and commitment to safety
- Strong leadership skills
- Demonstrated organizational awareness
- Ability to make rapid decisions while exercising sound judgment
- Ability to react and lead effectively during crises and emergencies using appropriate response strategies and resources
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills

- Bilingualism (Advanced level English/French) is required. The North Bay Regional Health Centre (NBRHC) is a unique healthcare organization with three primary roles. It provides acute care services to North Bay and its surrounding communities, it is the district referral centre providing specialist services for smaller communities in the area, and it is the specialized mental health service provider serving all of northeast Ontario
NBRHC has 389 beds and numerous outpatient and outreach services in North Bay and throughout the northeast region.
NBRHC is one of four major acute care hospitals serving northeast Ontario; the others being Sault Area Hospital, Timmins and District Hospital and Health Sciences North (Sudbury). The area is also served by small community hospitals like Mattawa and West Nipissing General hospitals.
NBRHC’s Regional Mental Health Services provides inpatient beds in North Bay and Sudbury and outpatient and outreach services that throughout the region—from Hudson Bay to Muskoka from Sault Ste. Marie to the Quebec border.
