We are currently looking for four (4) Buyers to join our team on a six month contract.
Reporting to the Procurement Lead, you will be responsible for providing excellent service by understanding customers' needs, who enthusiastically supports change, sharing your expertise, taking responsibility for your development, and actively seeking new challenges.
Key Elements Of This Role Include
- Being responsible for the planning and procurement of materials and services required to operate various NS Power stations.
- Managing the tactical acquisition of services and materials, as well as inventory, planning and forecasting, and expediting.
- Leveraging supplier relationships to maximize the benefits of cost, quality, and delivery of goods and services.
- Working as a team member to ensure efficient and effective planning and coordination of requirements across the supply chain to minimize cycle time in supply and acquisition.
- Ensuring that the receiving, issuance, and replenishment of material, as well as clerical administration functions, are performed effectively and in accordance with procurement guidelines.
- Ensuring that supply agreements are negotiated and managed effectively, maintaining existing contracts, and pursuing continuous improvement and cost-reduction opportunities, supported by financial analysis skills.
- Communicating effectively with suppliers and internal customers both verbally and in writing.
- Ensuring that all goods purchased are transported, received, and stored in accordance with all Environmental, Health and Safety Regulations and guidelines, and that Quality Assurance guidelines are met.
- Being responsible for personal safety and that of co-workers by observing and ensuring compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations.

- You have a College/University degree with a minimum 3-5 years related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- You are working towards professional designation (i.e. CPP/SCMP/CPIM/CSCP) or formal training in procurement or inventory control would be an asset.
- You are proficient with computers and programs such as Maximo, Oracle Financials, and the Microsoft Office Suite of software.
- You have a strong knowledge of the market solicitation process (tendering, RFPs) and analytical skills when it comes to evaluation.
- You can demonstrate skills in sourcing material through the effective use of computer driven tools such as the internet, and through industry contacts.
- You have demonstrated research and analytical skills and a strong ability to interact with all levels of the company.

About Nova Scotia Power
We provide 95 per cent of the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity in Nova Scotia, and serve over 500,000 residential, commercial and industrial customers across the province.
Our 1,700 dedicated, safety-focused employees help manage $5 billion worth of generation, transmission and distribution assets and produce more than 10,000 gigawatt hours of electricity each year.
We use a fuel mix including hydro, tidal, wind, coal, oil, biomass and natural gas to generate electricity. Our facilities can generate as much as 2,453 megawatts of electricity that is delivered across 32,000 km of transmission and distribution lines throughout Nova Scotia.
