About Us

Terracon Geotechnique is excited to welcome motivated Geoscience and Civil Engineering students to join our team in the Fort McMurray area for full-time, hands-on roles. In this position, you’ll gain invaluable experience in soil engineering, QA/QC monitoring, drill and construction oversight, site investigations, foundation inspections, and lab testing. Working across oil sands sites and open-pit mining environments, you’ll build essential safety and communication skills in a dynamic setting. Job Location: Fort McMurray

Pay Range: $28 - $32 per hour, depending on experience

Position Overview: Key Responsibilities

  • Develop hands-on skills in civil engineering, including soils, earthwork, concrete testing, construction monitoring, quality control testing, and piling inspections.
  • Communicate field testing results to client representatives and monitor subcontractor compliance with design specifications.
  • Learn material testing techniques in a resource-focused, professional setting.
  • Document, monitor, and verify that earthworks construction aligns with design specifications.
  • Gain insights from experienced employees with extensive industry and Terracon expertise.
  • Participate actively in implementing safety controls and promoting a culture of safety in the workplace.

Qualifications:

  • Enrolled in a Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Geosciences program or other related fields of study.
  • Prior technical experience is an asset.
  • Motivated to learn all facets of the industry.
  • Adaptable and strong team collaborator.
  • Effective under pressure with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Skilled in time management and prioritizing tasks.
  • Strong attention to detail in documentation and record-keeping.
  • Ability to drive a 4x4 vehicle off-road.
  • Strong commitment to safety and adherence to client site regulations.

Working Conditions, Schedule, and Physical Requirements and General Requirements:

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada on an ongoing basis.

  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

  • High school diploma required.

  • Must be physically able to perform laboratory tasks as needed.

  • Driving on mine roads; operating an all-terrain vehicle.

  • Successful completion of a Fit for Work assessment and Drug and Alcohol test.

  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, with rotational shifts often spanning 12 hours.
