About the role

Our client is seeking a Structural Engineer to join their marine manufacturing team. This role offers the opportunity to work across the full vessel lifecycle, contributing to concept design, detailed engineering, production support, and regulatory compliance. Working alongside multidisciplinary engineering teams, shipyards, suppliers, classification societies, and clients, the successful candidate will play a key role in developing innovative structural solutions while ensuring safety, performance, and compliance with international marine standards. This position is ideal for an engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges in a highly collaborative shipbuilding environment. Responsibilities Support the development of concept, basic, functional, and production design packages for vessel structural systems, providing technical expertise throughout the design and build lifecycle. Perform ship hull structural design, structural calculations, foundation design, and strength assessments, considering both static and dynamic loading conditions in marine environments. Develop technical solutions and resolve structural engineering issues arising during vessel design, construction, commissioning, and repair activities. Conduct structural analyses using first-principles calculations and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools such as FEMAP, Abaqus, SolidWorks, or equivalent software to validate structural integrity and class compliance. Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams including Naval Architecture, Machinery & Piping, Electrical, Outfitting, Safety, suppliers, shipyards, and classification societies to ensure integrated vessel design solutions. Prepare detailed technical reports, specifications, calculations, compliance documentation, and engineering recommendations while ensuring adherence to Classification Society Rules, IMO regulations, and international shipbuilding standards.

Qualifications Degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline, with Engineer-in-Training (EIT) designation or eligibility through a recognized professional association. Minimum 2 years of experience in ship structural design, marine engineering, naval architecture, or a related field with direct involvement in vessel structures and marine environments. Strong understanding of ship hull structures, foundation design, material strength, vibration analysis, steel fabrication, and structural assessment methodologies. Experience with engineering and design software such as AutoCAD, FEMAP, Multiframe, SolidWorks, ShipConstructor, Cadmatic, Navisworks, or similar marine and structural design tools. Working knowledge of marine industry regulations and standards, including Classification Society Rules Excellent analytical, technical writing, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently or collaboratively in a fast-paced shipbuilding environment while maintaining a strong commitment to safety and quality.

Pay: $44 – 55 per/hour depending on incorporation 5 days on site in North Vancouver, BC for 12 month contract
