Position Responsibilities:
People Leadership
- Lead a team of technology Software Engineers, Quality Engineers and IT Business Analysts across multi-squad, regulatory, or other cross-cutting initiatives.
- Mentor your team to continuously develop and grow technical and non-technical skills through mentorship, training and providing opportunities within the program.
- Foster team engagement and build an impactful team.
- Performance management including (but not limited to) clear expectation setting, tactical and stretch goal setting, performance evaluations and development strategies.
- Recruitment and onboarding for technology team members.
Technical Product and Assets
- Own the overall health of the technical asset(s) in its entirety.
- Develop, maintain and implement the assets technical roadmaps in alignment with Manulife’s technology strategy.
- Handle and resolve issues and risks as applicable.
- Partner with Product collaborators on prioritization; influencing PO to align with Asset Ownership and Health.
- Management and governance for technology vendors, and/or provide support from a technical perspective to business partners as they collaborate with vendors.
- Collaborate to develop patterns and documentation to ensure ongoing maintenance of technical and regulatory solutions.
- Collaborate to evaluate and define existing technology standards to ensure compliance with program-level requirements.
Enabling Delivery
- Ensure progress against key priorities and landmarks.
- Active participant in Program and Squad planning discussions, providing input on technical solutions and technical decision making.
- Participate in agile ceremonies, as appropriate.
- Collaborate with other Engineering Managers, Engineering Directors, Architecture and Product Managers on interdependent technology work.
Required Qualifications:
- Prior experience leading all aspects of diverse technical teams.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to handle and lead multiple initiatives across multiple teams.
- Responds well to ambiguity and works efficiently to clarify situations and outcomes.
- Awareness of cloud technology, and experience implementing in cloud infrastructure (Azure preferably).
- General knowledge of technology stacks (Java, .Net, Python)
- Collaborative approach to work with team members; able to coach, participate in code reviews, support or drive design sessions.
- Constantly learns from both success and failure.
- Good problem-solving skills that enable you to lead through creative abrasion.
- Good verbal and written communication; able to effectively articulate technical vision, possibilities and outcomes.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Financial institution experience an asset

Salary range is expected to be between
$94,220.00 CAD - $174,980.00 CAD

The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training.
