The Ministry of Finance is responsible for oversight of government revenue, expenses, assets and liabilities. In addition to other responsibilities, Finance is the lead ministry for fiscal policy; budget development and integrity; and ensuring accountability to both the public and the Legislative Assembly for the use of public funds.
The Opportunity
The Ministry is seeking an energetic, highly-motivated, well-organized, results-oriented self-starter with exceptional leadership and management skills to join the Deputy Minister’s Office. As the Executive Advisor to the Deputy Minister , you will review sensitive internal and public documents for consistency and manage and coordinate various projects on behalf of the Deputy Minister’s Office, ensuring confidentiality.
You will work closely with the Executive Leadership Team and represent the Deputy Minister’s office on inter-branch projects in the ministry as well as inter-ministry projects. You will also be a key liaison with the Minister’s Office to ensure ministerial inquiries are handled in an efficient manner.
Key responsibilities include:
- Manage policy issues and coordinate briefings on emerging matters;
- Collaborate with the Executive Leadership Team to align cross-division efforts, monitor ministry priorities, and advise on emerging strategic issues;
- Coordinate with the Minister's Office to organize briefings and manage responses on behalf of the Ministry;
- Develop and maintain respectful, collegial relationships within the Ministry and the Office of the Minister of Finance to address situations which require confidential and tactful management; and
- Champion the values of the Government of Saskatchewan’s commitment to excellence and contribute to a positive workplace culture.
Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will be a seasoned professional who leverages persuasive communication and strong collaboration skills to meet objectives and overcome obstacles while remaining open to new ideas.

- Analyze Ministry goals and strategies and understand how they relate to the government’s overall strategic direction;
- Be self-directed in anticipating and responding to the needs of the Deputy Minister’s Office through proactive environmental scans to identify and respond to emerging issues;
- Engage in lateral thinking to improve Ministry processes through creative and innovative problem solving;
- Communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing, to share relevant information with stakeholders and articulate the rationale behind decisions;
- Influence various stakeholders using superior negotiation skills to achieve goals or resolve problems;
- Manage competing priorities of multiple stakeholders to ensure successful outcomes;
- Use sound judgment and strong issues management skills to proactively respond to challenging and dynamic situations, while mitigating risk;
- Coach and motivate team members and others within the ministry; and
- Use strong organizational skills, with attention to detail, to manage work, track achievements, take corrective action and meet deadlines.
Typically, the knowledge and skills required for this position would be attained through the completion of a degree in business, commerce, economics, public policy, public administration, or a related discipline and experience in public policy analysis. Knowledge of government decision-making and Treasury Board processes would be considered an asset.
