Location: Prince George Family YMCA (2020 Massey Drive, Prince George, BC)

Terms: Full-TimePermanent

Hours: 35 hours per week

Shift: Shifts vary but will weekdays, evenings and weekend per the operational needs

Start Date: As soon as possible

Salary: $75,000 - $80,000 annually

Reports To: Vice President - Member Acquisition and Regional Centre Operations

Nature and Scope

The Prince George Family Y is a multi-services facility, offering Fitness Services, Health Management Programs, Group Fitness classes, and Child and Youth Programs. We believe in putting people first, with 5-Star YMCA Services, and creating environments that are caring, welcoming and fun.

The Centre Manager of the Prince George Family Y plays a pivotal role in overseeing all aspects of the facility’s management and operations. This includes leading diverse teams across membership sales, fitness, recreation, and child-minding to ensure every visitor and member enjoys a safe and exceptional experience. The position is responsible for driving membership growth and retention, coordinating facility programming and scheduling, and contributing to strategic planning initiatives. Additionally, the Centre Manager establishes and maintains annual membership targets, while developing, managing, and monitoring approved budgets to support sustainable operations and achieve financial goals.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Develop annual goals and business plans, implementing initiatives to grow and sustain user engagement across all programs and services. Adjust targets and plans as needed to meet evolving community and member expectations.
  • Analyze program outcomes to identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. Make informed decisions based on business situations and set goals related to people, promotions, pricing, space utilization, and programming.
  • Champion a continuous improvement approach by evaluating programs and activities regularly, and recommending enhancements to staff and the management team to ensure high-quality service delivery.
  • Develops and oversees departmental budgets. Ensures that reporting is accurate, and spending is within balanced budgets. Strategic, statistical, quarterly, and annual reports are completed.
  • Hire, train, and supervise a collaborative, service-oriented team, providing ongoing mentorship, coaching, and support. Foster a positive work environment through strong leadership and an open-door policy that encourages growth and accountability.
  • Actively participate in professional development opportunities, leadership meetings, and networking events. Ensure operational effectiveness by implementing and maintaining efficient processes and procedures across departments.
  • Lead efforts to set and achieve organizational objectives, conduct annual performance appraisals, and establish clear expectations. Adapt goals and strategies to meet evolving community needs and organizational challenges.
  • Act as an ambassador of the YMCA’s mission, vision, and values by fostering positive relationships with members and ensuring excellence in service. Address customer service concerns promptly and identify opportunities to enhance each individual’s experience.
  • Promote a culture of collaboration, open communication, and knowledge sharing. Provide guidance to staff in challenging situations, maintain an open-door policy, and participate in leadership development opportunities to strengthen team performance and cohesion.
  • Ensure a safe and inclusive recreational environment for all members, with a strong commitment to Child Protection policies. Continuously develop, review, and implement safety procedures, orientation protocols, and manuals to minimize risks and maintain high safety standards.
  • Provide ongoing staff training and practical evaluations to ensure procedures are followed effectively. Maintain current certifications and support staff in handling challenging situations, fostering a culture of safety, responsiveness, and continuous improvement.
  • Lead the planning, development, and implementation of training and development initiatives, special events, and operational projects such as repairs and renovations. Collaborate with multiple stakeholders and facilitate project teams to deliver high-quality programs and services.
  • Manage procurement, scheduling, and stakeholder communications to achieve desired outcomes. Proactively identify emerging needs and develop responsive policies and training to address challenges and enhance organizational effectiveness.
  • Enhance consistency, development, and innovation across fitness programs, maintaining the YMCA’s reputation as a leader. Uphold the integrity of national champion program standards through recruitment, certification, mentoring, and professional development of instructors, staff, and volunteers.
  • Continuously scan internal and external environments to keep programs relevant, evidence-based, and forward-thinking. Participate in direct service delivery as needed to support program quality and responsiveness.

Qualifications**-you bring:**

  • College or University Degree (Leadership, Business or Recreation)
  • Three to five years supervisory experience leading teams in a related field
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, verbal, and written communication
  • Experience with Conceptualizing and implementing strategic initiatives, program planning, evaluation, budgets, facility management, fund-raising and leading people
  • Ability to build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships – both externally and internally
  • Passion for continuous improvement and ability to develop a positive working environment
  • Experience in volunteer management and donor engagement
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C & AED certificate
  • Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and CRM systems experience
  • Experience with ActiveNet an asset
  • Experience in a fitness facility or recreation centre an asset
  • Access to reliable transit or a vehicle
  • Conflict resolution training an asset
  • Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Reference Check/Vulnerable Sector Search issued no later than six (6) months preceding your start date
