Who’ll you be joining: Our Hardware Team is made up of engineers with a wide variety of specialties, skill sets, backgrounds, and experiences ranging from HVAC control to RF design, digital logic, avionics, test fixtures, embedded software development, PCB layout and power electronics. They aim to bring their wide experience to the cross-functional squads that they are a part of, with a focus on collaboration, learning, development.
As an Associate Verification Engineer, you will be at the forefront of validating and delivering high-reliability products and test systems for next-generation hardware. This role is ideal for a hands-on engineer who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys working across electrical, mechanical, RF, and software domains. You’ll own the full lifecycle in executing complex test systems—from concept and design to automation and compliance—ensuring our products meet the highest standards of performance, reliability, and regulatory readiness.
This role follows a hybrid schedule, with in-office work required on Wednesdays and Thursdays to support collaboration; and flexibility to work remotely for the remainder of the week.
How you’ll make an impact:
Verification Testing
- Execute design verification tests on pre-production hardware using oscilloscopes, power supplies, e-loads, thermal chambers, and data loggers
- Modify hardware to facilitate verification testing to measure current consumption, voltage ripple, etc. under specific verification test cases
- Validate signal integrity and timing of communication protocols (I2C, SPI, UART, SDIO) using oscilloscopes, decoders, logic analyzers
- Perform hardware verification testing under changing environmental test conditions by creating custom thermal test profiles
- Record results, annotate screenshots, summarize findings, and create clear documentation for peer-reviewable reports
- Host meetings to summarize results, escalate blockers, and request support when needed
- Provide engineering judgement to conceptualize, design, and propose verification test cases
Test Development & Automation
- Document standardized test procedures to facilitate rapid testing and development
- Interface several test instrumentation systems and setup acquisition equipment for overnight testing
- Create Python scripts to interface with test equipment via SCPI commands, compile, align, analyze data, and generate plots
- Develop basic Linux shell scripts to evaluate stress hardware and collect metrics for long-term tests
- Import example application code for new hardware evaluation modules, modify C code to configure basic settings to ensure hardware is in specific operational modes
Hardware Development
- Modify and rework pre-production samples as needed to support verification testing by changing component values, fly-wiring design corrections, etc.
- Read and interpret datasheets, understand component specifications, compare and contrast results to verification tests
- Support evaluating and testing prototype circuits for new products
- With the help of senior engineers, complete the schematic capture and layout for basic circuits
- Perform SMT assembly using stencils and reflow equipment for low component count and fine pitch circuit boards
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Design, Firmware, Manufacturing, Test Fixtures) to expose design problems and determine root cause
- Author clear and concise requests or instruction sets for other teams to implement a specific set of requirements
- Create block diagrams and documentation that communicates verification test design implementation
- Track and communicate test progress, risks, and summarize key findings
What You’ll Bring to the Table:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical, Computer, or related Engineering field
- 2+ years of experience in hardware development and test automation
- Proficient in Altium for schematic capture and PCB layout
- Skilled in scripting with Python
- Familiar with embedded development in C and Linux environments
- Hands-on experience with lab instruments such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, e-loads, signal generators, thermal chambers
- Strong communication and project management skills

- A 1 hour interview with the Hiring Manager and leadership team to assess background, product experience, technical depth and overall fit for the role.
- The final round will be an hour long technical case study and presentation. We normally give candidates a week to complete the case study.
Generac is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The salary range for this role based in Toronto, ON is $80,500 - $100,600 CAD. This compensation will ultimately be in line with the location in which the position is filled. Final compensation for this role will be determined by various factors such as a candidate’s relevant work experience, skills, certifications and geographic location. This role is eligible for variable compensation including short term and long-term incentives.
This position includes a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans; life, long-term disability, flexible spending and health savings accounts, accrued paid time off, paid Holidays (10 for Ontario, 11 for British Columbia) and RRSP retirement benefits
