As an Environmental Coordinator on Pomerleau's Operational Support team, you'll play a vital role in helping project teams ensure environmental and contractual compliance on our projects. Supporting large-scale building, civil engineering and infrastructure projects - ranging from $1.5 million to over $1 billion - you'll have the opportunity to provide advice, support and assistance to ensure legislative compliance.
As an Environmental Coordinator, you will play a critical role in supporting project teams to achieve and maintain full compliance with environmental legislation, contractual requirements, and other project-specific conditions and commitments. With your communication, collaboration, and adaptability skills, your work will help foster a positive and proactive culture of environmental awareness and regulatory responsibility within your project team and the entire Pomerleau family.
In Your Capacity As Environmental Coordinator You Will
Report to the Project Environmental Manager and/or the Project Manager and/or the Regional Environmental Manager (reporting structure will depend on project assignment and allocation
Participate in the development, update and implementation of project-specific environmental management plans and permit applications, and assist in construction planning by ensuring that environmental requirements are integrated into execution documents
Deliver environmental awareness training to project personnel, including subcontractors
Participate in toolbox talks, field kickoff meetings, and construction coordination meetings.
Monitor construction activities for environmental and regulatory compliance by documenting the following: environmental observations, the implementation of good practices, opportunities for improvement, instances of non-compliance, and generally collect evidence in support of compliance.
Communicate with and support superintendents and managers with environmental compliance including the remediation of environmental deficiencies
Execute sampling plans for soil and water, in accordance with provincial and federal guidance documents including the collection of soil and water samples.
Collect and track environmental data including water and soil quality and discharge/disposal volumes.
Respond to and participate in environmental emergencies including those that are both unplanned and uncontrolled and result in, or have the potential to result in, impacts to receiving environments.
Generate routine environmental monitoring reports, environmental incident reports, and spill reports.
Qualifications
Completion of a post secondary program (certificate, diploma, undergraduate degree, etc.) in Environmental Science, Engineering, Biology, Geology, or similar field.
Experience in the environmental field, ideally in a construction or industrial setting or tunnelling project.
Working knowledge of Provincial and Federal environmental legislation, guidelines, and recognized Best Management Practices.
Experience in sampling and environmental monitoring
Equally a self starter and team player
