Position Summary

The Technician is responsible for the professional installation, calibration, removal, and servicing of ignition interlock devices (IID). This role plays a key part in ensuring device accuracy, client education, and adherence to Smart Start Canada’s safety and compliance standards. The Technician also supports inventory control, record accuracy, and customer service excellence while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism in all client interactions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, remove, and perform monitoring and calibration of ignition interlock devices in accordance with company procedures.
  • Conduct client training sessions on proper use and maintenance of ignition interlock devices.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues, perform off-site services, and retrieve equipment as needed.
  • Process client payments accurately and maintain proper documentation of all transactions.
  • Support inventory management by tracking, recording, and maintaining equipment and supply levels.
  • Ensure all service records, client files, and transactions are completed accurately and securely.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment in compliance with safety standards.
  • Demonstrate a high level of professionalism and customer service in all client interactions.
  • Protect the confidentiality and integrity of sensitive information at all times.
  • Complete mileage and expense reports for authorized off-site services.
  • Perform additional duties and tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license (or equivalent).
  • Ability to pass and maintain a clean criminal background check.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational ability.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to handle payments and perform accurate record keeping.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of 12-volt automotive wiring or related electrical systems.
  • Previous experience in automotive service, installation, or electronics repair.
  • Familiarity with ignition interlock devices or similar monitoring technology.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Post-secondary training in automotive technology, electronics, or a related field considered an asset.
  • 1–2 years of related work experience preferred.

Employment Conditions

  • Primarily based on-site with occasional off-site travel for service appointments.
  • Exposure to automotive shop environment; adherence to all safety protocols required.
