About the role
General Information:
The Cowichan Valley Regional District is now accepting applications for casual Utility Worker II opportunities at Kerry Park Recreation Centre in the Facilities & Transit Division within the Community Services Department. Reporting to the Manager – Facility Operations (South Cowichan) , the Utility Worker II is responsible for the cleanliness, sanitation, housekeeping and maintenance of the facilities and grounds. Main duties include cleaning, room and equipment set-ups and tear-downs, ice and facilities maintenance, grounds work, sports field facility maintenance, and incidental security work.
Qualifications:
- Secondary School graduation or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- A minimum of one (1) year of experience in cleaning, housekeeping and facility and grounds maintenance is required. One (1) year of experience working in a trade (carpentry, electrical, painting, plumbing etc.) is also required.
- A Refrigeration Operator Certificate
- Occupational First Aid Level 1 or equivalent
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License WHMIS certification- - provided by the employer
- Ice Facility Operator Certificate would be an asset
- Building Service Worker Certificate would be an asset
- Ice Making Courses would be an asset

Hours of Work:
This is a casual, on-call opportunity with no guaranteed hours of work. Shifts are based on the operational needs of the facility. The successful candidate must be able to work a variety of hours and shifts, including weekdays, weekends, evenings, and short-notice shifts.
Salary:
Wage rate in 3 steps as per the Collective Agreement between the CVRD and CUPE Local 358, $33.03 - $33.99 - $34.98 per hour (2025 rates), plus an additional 14.5% pay in lieu of vacation, benefits, and stat holidays.
