JOB SUMMARY:

Reporting to the International Department Director, Student Success/Experience Coordinators work with the Homestay

Coordinator to support ISP students’ retention and success, helping them adapt to their time in Winnipeg, living with a Canadian

family, and attending school in Canada. They liaise between students’ placement schools, homestay, the ISP office, and ISP

recruitment partners, organizing cultural events and activities, and responding to known and emerging ISP student needs. The

incumbents are required to travel regularly between LRSD Board Offices and LRSD school locations, and they may be required to

travel outside Winnipeg. Additionally, job may involve supporting LRSD’s Arts and Technology Centre to enroll and integrate

young adult international students enrolled in its Post Graduate Work Permit Eligible Certificate Programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

As a Student Coordinator, you will:

  • Liaise with LRSD high schools’ Student Services to ensure programming matches students’ study goals and origin

school academic requirements and to source English language, translation or academic services as required

  • Encourage student engagement in extracurricular activities and local, in-community sports, groups and events
  • Collaborate with ISP’s Homestay Coordinator to develop students’ understanding of cultural differences and how to

navigate disputes arising from them, meeting and modelling conflict management strategies as necessary

  • Support students to source medical care (mental and physical) as needed
  • Monitor study permit and attendance compliance and track and report student performance and program

participation to internal and external stakeholders as required

  • Support in-print and online marketing of the LRSD Go Global experience, developing content to engage current and

future international students and current and future LRSD homestays

  • Closely monitor and evaluate international student and recruitment partner satisfaction and success, acting to

improve outcomes as required

  • Liaise with insurance provider, developing and sharing expertise in insurance policies, medical care access, and claims

submission processes

  • Co-plan and facilitate school intake and orientations sessions as well as local, monthly cultural events, and plan and

implement regional/national cultural experiences, including overnight fieldtrips and multi-day and camp experiences

  • Support the planning and implementation of ISP Summer Programming
  • Comply with current legislation (Federal and Provincial) and LRSD Divisional Administrative Guidelines and protocols.

QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE):

  • Completion of post-secondary education in a related field is required and five years’ experience working in high school

setting (preferred) or a combination of education and experience will be considered.

  • Knowledge of international student educational goals and programming, the Manitoba high school timetabling and credit

system, and other countries’ education systems.

  • Demonstrated ability to plan, develop, promote, facilitate, and evaluate programs, activities, and events.
  • Demonstrated ability to use social media to create content to communicate and market student and homestay experiences

and to create community.

  • Demonstrated experience accessing databases and using student information systems, specifically.
  • Knowledge of federal and provincial legislation related to international education, including familiarity with Immigration,

Refugee, and Citizenship Canadian regulations.

  • Ability to work flexible hours, evenings, weekends, and on-call.
  • Superior written communication skills, excellent communication skills and the ability to act with diplomacy.
  • Intercultural competence and the ability to work with diverse groups and to demonstrate sensitivity to other cultures.
  • Demonstrated accountability and the ability to work independently, often without direct supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with confidential and sensitive matters.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Experience is a Post-secondary environment is an asset
  • Ability to speak multiple languages is an asset.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector Search.
  • Clear report from the Child Abuse Registry.
  • Review and comply with Divisional policies and guidelines.
  • Continued employment is subject to maintaining legal eligibility to work in Canada.
  • Valid Manitoba Driver’s License, current Driver’s Abstract, and access to a reliable vehicle is required.
  • Valid passport and ability to travel within Canada and internationally.
  • Required to work non-standard hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Required to work after hours on-call on a rotating basis.
  • Respect In School or equivalent training is required.
