The Role
The Security Operations Specialist will support internal security and compliance activities across areas such as cybersecurity, Government of Canada contract security, ISO 27001 and SOC 2 compliance, physical security, privacy, and emerging technology governance. Working closely with the Security Operations Lead, you will help maintain strong security practices, support compliance requirements, and improve processes across internal teams including IT, software development, HR, finance, and project management.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
Process and maintain Government of Canada personnel security clearances for employees and subcontractors. Take primary responsibility for data collection and compliance activities supporting ISO 27001 and SOC 2 certifications. Analyze security terms in public sector contracts and provide guidance and oversight to analysts, consultants, developers, and project managers. Respond to general security inquiries from colleagues, including cybersecurity questions related to phishing, best practices, and contract security compliance. Support inspection and compliance activities required to maintain document safeguarding and Controlled Goods certifications. Manage physical access credentials and support IT with physical access control configurations and policies. Assist with security and compliance requirements related to procurement, subcontracting, and project management.
What You Bring To The Table
3+ years of experience in security and compliance roles, or in another relevant area such as IT service desk, cybersecurity, governance, or legal, with experience contracting with the public sector considered a major asset. Experience processing or supporting Government of Canada personnel security clearances. Knowledge of Government of Canada contract security requirements and practices. Experience supporting audits, evidence collection, or compliance activities for ISO 27001, SOC 2, or similar frameworks. Experience reviewing and interpreting security or compliance requirements in contracts. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work confidently and diplomatically with project managers and external vendors and a working capacity in French considered an asset. Strong attention to detail, organization, and accuracy, with the ability to support comprehensive and thoughtful audit compliance activities. An aptitude for learning technical and complex issues and translating them into simple, practical insights for busy people. Strong organizational, time management, and prioritization skills, with the ability to manage responsibilities across a broad portfolio as priorities shift over time. Sound judgment, confidence in speaking up when needed, and the ability to remain level-headed, enable the business, and act without hesitation when a compliance risk arises.
