The Agricultural Technology Integration Specialist is to lead the development and implementation of Geographical Information Systems (GIS), Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), and IT systems to support modernization and efficient delivery of the agricultural insurance programs across PEI Agricultural Insurance Corporation (PEI AIC). This position ensures accurate data collection, analysis, and technological coordination to enhance program integrity, client service, and operational effectiveness.

Duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Use UAV technology to collect data used for insurance validation of existence of insured crops, damaged areas, and to count fruit trees and bushes;
  • Process UAV and manual data collected by staff and yourself to create views of insured acreage for insurance validation of existence of insured crops, damaged areas, and to count insured fruit trees and bushes;
  • Use approved software to display topographic data outputs to be provided to insurance officers to support insurance applications, claims, and/or counts of insured fruit trees;
  • Develop and recommend how PEI AIC may continue to modernize and utilize all capabilities that UAV could be used for to improve the efficiency of the insurance program;
  • As the UAV expert, create how to documents and checklists on proper use of UAV technology and proper UAV use observing all transport Canada requirements;
  • Expert responsible for development and maintenance of PEI AIC’s GIS data;
  • Expert in advising the most efficient use of GIS systems including providing guidance and assistance on the creation, storage, and display of GIS data;
  • Data owner for PEI AIC’s GIS Enterprise and Online portals;
  • Maintain PEI AIC’s SQL database of GIS data;
  • Maintain online GIS applications for insurance officer and client use;
  • Coordinator between ITSS/Software vendors and PEI AIC staff for all software, apps, and hardware requests;
  • A key member of the team involved in new software for the Corporation when required will be involved by researching product options, presenting options with pros and cons, being involved in the acquisition process, and project managing for PEI AIC implementing a new system;
  • Responsible for documenting and managing document storage or new software development for PEI AIC’s records;
  • Responsible to manage IT tickets related to systems required to deliver PEI AIC’s programs;
  • Assist programs teams when needed;
  • Development of work plans and briefing notes;
  • Other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in (Science, Agriculture, Computer science, Math or other relevant).
  • Demonstrated equivalencies will be considered.
  • Considerable experience with SQL databases or enterprise GIS.
  • Considerable experience with UAV flying and UAV software.
  • Must have excellent computer skills, particularly with respect to geospatial data analysis, word processing, and spreadsheets.
  • Must have excellent skills in communication, conflict resolutions, and organization.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

Other Qualifications:

  • Experience with Pix 4D is considered an asset.
  • Experience with agriculture monitoring is considered an asset.
