About the role
Westside Recreation Centre is a world-class facility based on a lifestyle and wellness concept. Since 2000, we have been providing families with high quality and accessible recreation facilities, programs and services. Come have fun with us this summer! In this exciting, hands-on leadership role, Summer Day Camp Leaders supervise, plan, and instruct a variety of day camps for children ages 3-15 years. This is a seasonal/temporary position with full-time hours available.
Responsibilities:
- To supervise, plan, and instruct summer day camps for children ages 3-15Y. Activities may include sports, physical literacy, outdoor activities, group games, performing arts, crafts, free swim time, and more
- To provide a safe, fun and quality day camp experience
- Actively and enthusiastically participate in all aspects of day camps, including in-pool time
- To provide leadership to campers of all ages and abilities
- Supervision of Leaders in Training and Youth Volunteers
- To complete all the required day camp lesson planning and evaluation of camps
- Set-up/take-down, cleaning, and general maintenance of equipment
- Administrative duties as required
- Provide exceptional customer service to camp families during sign in/out times
- Day-to-day risk management
- Group control and child guidance of campers
- Attend all training sessions and meetings as required
Camp Categories:
Camps we are currently hiring for include:
- Sport Camps 6-15Y: Includes badminton, baseball, basketball, hockey, multisport, and soccer camps
- Preschool Camps 2-6Y: Includes sports and movement, crafts, sensory activities, group games, circle time, etc.
- General Camps 6-12Y: Includes traditional camp activities like outdoor games, crafts, swimming, sports, and themed activities
- Fine Arts 3-12Y: Specialty skills including dance, yoga, gymnastics, drama, artistic swimming, performing arts, singing, and painting
Leaders may be requested to work multiple categories.
Physical/Psychological Demands:
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, noisy environment
- Ability to work inside and outside when required
- Ability to life 20-25lbs on a daily basis
- Must hold high ethical standards as this role works with a vulnerable population and has access to confidential information
Requirements:
To be considered for this role, all candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Be available for minimum 8 out of 10 weeks throughout the summer. Summer day camps run from July 02-September 02, 2026. Full time day camp leaders will be scheduled to work 35-42 hours per week
- Attend required day camp training, which will take place at the end of June, 2026
- Must be available for in-person or virtual interviews
Qualifications:
- Minimum 18 years of age. Applicants who are under 18Y are encouraged to apply for our “Day Camp Leader in Training (Part-Time)” position
- 2+ years previous experience in working with children in a recreation day camp setting or equivalent
- Current Alberta Approved First Aid training agency - CSA Standard Z1210-17 Intermediate First Aid and must be valid through to September 02, 2026
- Successful applicant must have a clear Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Search completed at their own cost
- Relevant certifications (such as NCCP/High 5) considered an asset
- Education, experience and/or certifications in physical literacy and fundamental movement skills considered an asset
- Early Childhood Education (ECE Level 1) & similar certifications considered an asset
