About Us

The Financial Shared Services Branch within the Provincial Comptroller's Office at the Ministry of Finance is responsible for providing central financial services to ministries and other clients within the Government of Saskatchewan. Services include, but are not limited to:

  • Support and configuration of the government-wide financial system.
  • Accounts payable, accounts receivable and fixed asset transactional processing.
  • Payment services.
  • Help desk support for financial system users.

The Accounts Payable and Fixed Asset Processing Unit is responsible for processing supplier invoices, other requests for payment, employee expense claims and fixed asset transactions. Within this unit, the Compliance and Optimization team plays a critical role in ensuring government payments are lawful, proper and accurate by conducting risk-based audits.

The Opportunity

The Accounts Payable and Fixed Asset Processing Unit is seeking a highly motivated leader committed to client service & continuous improvement for the position of Assistant Manager, Compliance and Optimization.

As the Assistant Manager, reporting to the Manager, Compliance and Optimization, you will be responsible for:

  • Leading a team of six audit specialists in the delivery of risk-based audit services to ensure payments made through CAP are compliant with requirements established under The Financial Administration Act, the Saskatchewan Financial Administration Manual, the Human Resources Manual, and other payment authorities;
  • Providing advice and making recommendations to address issues & trends identified during the audit process; and,
  • As part of the Branch leadership team, you will participate in continuous improvement projects.

The Ideal Candidate

Our successful candidate will be innovative, with excellent problem-solving and analytical skills and be able to demonstrate:

  • A working knowledge of accounting and auditing principles;
  • The ability to interpret and apply policy and legislation to determine compliance;
  • Superior communication skills to relay complex issues clearly and credibly;
  • The ability to plan, prioritize and organize a high volume of tasks, taking into consideration frequent interruptions;
  • The ability to plan, develop and update business processes, policy and procedures; and,
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.

Typically, the knowledge and skills required for this position would be obtained through:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration/Commerce specializing in accounting or finance (an accounting designation would be an asset);
  • Experience in successfully leading and coaching a team;
  • Several years of audit and/or financial management experience; or
  • An equivalent combination of education and work experience will be considered.
