We currently have an opportunity open for a Health and Safety Coordinator in Victoria. This position is full-time, for a fixed-term to cover a maternity leave.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Promote and demonstrate a strong culture of health and safety as a safety leader within the organization.
  • Organize, maintain, and administer CGI’s Health and Safety Program in the Western region.
  • Participate in the onboarding of new employees and relay required safety information to both new and current employees.
  • Participate in Joint Health & Safety Committee.
  • Identify safety training requirements, make recommendations, schedule and deliver approved training as required.
  • Maintain employee safety training matrix and track employee training ensuring that all certifications are up to date.
  • Assist in the identification, development and provision of appropriate health and safety related information, instruction and training (i.e., health and safety handbook, technical reference guide).
  • Complete internal safety audits as required.
  • Assist with the coordination of requirements for achieving any industry certifications.
  • Maintain a WHMIS Program, including a current MSDS and staff training.
  • Provide support to sites and project teams on WorksafeBC regulations and policies.
  • Ensure appropriate and sufficient safety equipment is available to all employees.
  • Work closely with site employees and subcontractors to ensure workers comply with safety legislation while at work.
  • Coordinate the review of health and safety related policies and procedures, including any new legislative and/or technical changes.
  • Maintain safety documentation and provide support for site employees using project management software.

Qualifications

  • University degree or college diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (or a related field) is required.
  • 2-4 years of experience in a Health and Safety role is required (Construction industry experience is highly preferred).
  • Experience with PowerPoint, Excel and auditor safety software.
  • Valid Driver's License with a clean abstract.
  • Understanding of federal, provincial, municipal, and WorksafeBC safety requirements.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain positive relationships.
  • Adaptable and ability to work in fast-paced environments, within tight deadlines while maintaining safety and high-quality standards.
