Position Overview

The incumbent in this position is responsible for all receptionist, communication and clerical functions on the nursing unit.

Demonstrate ability to provide continuous quality services. Adheres to all safety and health regulations and demonstrates safe work practices. Accept and work within the framework of the Hospital's philosophy, objectives and policies. Facilitate communication both written and verbal intra and interdepartmentally. Maintain records and reports. Transcribe physician orders as required. Facilitate good public relations intra and interdepartmentally. Maintain recording and audit systems designated by the Program Manager. Order supplies as required or requested. Initiate requisitions as necessary or as requested. Temporarily relieves, replaces or assists other Communication Clerks as necessary. Operate communication equipment in the area. Maintain effective working relationships with and within the unit through interaction with staff, physicians, patients, visitors, etc. Meet own learning needs through self-improvement individual study, in-services and staff meetings.

Experience

Previous communication clerk experience required.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

Completion of Grade 12. Completion of Communication Clerk course. Health Records Technician course preferred. Working knowledge of medical terminology required.

Qualifications And Skills

Ability to effectively: Relate on an interpersonal basis; Work under stressful conditions; Retain data on a confidential basis. Demonstrate abilities in word processing, database and spreadsheets (specifically Microsoft Office) required. Demonstrated ability to read, converse, and write proficiently in the English language required. Ability to complete the position on a regular basis.

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
