POSITION DESCRIPTION: INTERNAL COVERAGE****TEACHER******-SENIOR SCHOOL -(**TEMPORARY FULL-TIME 1.0****FTE)

We are currently inviting applications for the temporary full-time (1.0 FTE) position of Internal Coverage Teacher – Senior School. This position will commence September 1, 2026, to June 30, 2027.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The Internal Coverage Teacher provides daily and short-term coverage for teacher absences in grades 8 – 12 across all disciplines.
  • Deliver the core program requirements, as assigned by subject-specific teachers, to students in Grades 8 through 12 following the BC Ministry of Education curriculum in alignment with the Southridge Senior School Educational Plan. Note: May be required to teach .10 FTE in Career Education.
  • Create a learning environment where students engage actively, think critically, and explore ideas together using a student-centred, discussion-based, collaborative approach (Harkness)
  • Support the purpose and actualization of the Southridge mission, vision, and values and appreciate how these continuously shape and influence our community
  • Uphold age-appropriate behaviour expectations, including Senior School Student Code of Ethics and relevant policies and guidelines
  • Participate in two terms of the school's co-curricular program
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as outlined in the Employee Handbook

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelor of Education degree
  • Hold a valid BC teaching certificate or an independent teaching certificate
  • Must be highly collegial and a collaborative team partner
  • Excellent spoken and written communication skills and strong organization skills
  • A high level of initiative, energy and motivation
  • A proactive and innovative approach to solving problems
  • Proven work ethic and a high level of integrity
  • Effective interpersonal skills to establish connections, build trust and rapport with students and parents
  • A proven understanding of children developmentally
  • Experience teaching at the Senior School level in an independent school environment is an asset
  • First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain certification)
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Experience teaching in a technology rich environment is an asset
  • Co-curricular coaching experience is valued

Southridge is excited to offer a competitive salary, with a pay scale the exceeds the Vancouver School District by 4%. Along with this, we have a comprehensive benefits package and a generous RRSP matching program, access to health and wellness activities including generous support for professional learning and development. The salary range for this position is from $72,637. to $108,171. Salary placement is based on years of teaching experience and the completion of a Bachelor of Education degree.
