DESCRIPTION
The Strategic Account Manager – Energy is responsible for managing and growing a designated portfolio of strategic Energy accounts, including Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), Transmission & Distribution (T&D), and Renewable Energy (Solar and Wind). This role represents the Phoenix Contact brand to customers and partners and serves as the single point of accountability for all commercial engagement, opportunity development, and account performance.
The Strategic Account Manager operates in a field-based, customer-facing capacity and is accountable for driving sustainable growth through early engagement, consultative selling, and effective coordination of internal resources while representing the full Phoenix Contact product and solution portfolio.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Sales & Account Management
- Own and manage a defined list of strategic Energy sector accounts within an assigned territory.
- Develop and execute account growth plans aligned with customer objectives and company sales targets.
- Drive revenue growth, market penetration, and portfolio adoption across assigned accounts.
- Act as the primary business contact and escalation point for customers.
Opportunity & Pipeline Management
- Identify, qualify, and pursue opportunities at early stages of the project, design, and specification lifecycle.
- Maintain a healthy, accurate, and forward-looking sales funnel within the CRM system.
- Manage long and complex sales cycles involving multiple stakeholders and decision-makers including end users, EPCs, OEMs, and consultants.
Technical & Solution Selling
- Represent the full Phoenix Contact portfolio, including connectivity, automation, cabinet efficiency, and power reliability solutions.
- Demonstrate strong technical understanding of energy applications such as grid infrastructure, renewable generation, energy storage, and power management systems.
- Collaborate with internal technical resources to develop value-added and application-specific solutions.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Coordinate closely with Inside Account Managers, Business Area Managers, product specialists, and application engineers.
- Align internal teams to support opportunity pursuit, key account engagement, and execution.
- Participate in regional and national initiatives, campaigns, and key account programs.
Market & Product Feedback
- Maintain awareness of energy market trends, regulatory drivers, and competitive activity.
- Provide structured feedback to internal teams on customer requirements, market needs, and product opportunities.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of solutions, portfolio positioning, and go-to-market strategies.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- University degree or College Technician/Technologist diploma, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 5–10 years of experience in technical sales, account management, or business development.
- Experience selling into utility, renewable energy, power infrastructure, or industrial markets preferred.
- Strong consultative selling, negotiation, and relationship management skills.
ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating with cross-functional teams.
- Proficiency with CRM systems and standard business tools.
- Ability to travel within the assigned territory and occasionally outside the region as required.
- Valid driver’s license.
