Job Description Seasonal Position located at 3531 Old Okanagan Hwy in WEST KELOWNA

Position Purpose Summary The Salvation Army Christmas Kettle Campaign is part of a century old tradition to contribute towards building strong communities by helping TSA to give hope to others. The Kettle Assistant position is a short-term contract position. The successful candidate is responsible for the oversight of kettle counting, preparing deposits and filling out statistics for each Kettle location.

Key Responsibilities Incumbent may perform all, some, or similar range of duties as below.

  • Attends training/orientation on The Salvation Army and the Christmas Kettle Campaign
  • Ensure all Kettle donations are securely handled in strict adherence to cash handling policies and procedures.
  • Leads and assists in the kettle operations for West Kelowna locations
  • Assures Kettle Campaign results in the Kettle Deposit Summary are completed and sent s to appropriate personnel.
  • Communicate daily issues and supply deficiencies to Volunteer & Kettle Coordinator
  • Provide training to and the orientation of volunteers assuring proper handling of Kettle donations and counting procedures as required
  • Assist in the scheduling and re-scheduling of volunteers as necessary
  • May assist in supervising and supporting Kettle counting volunteers throughout the Campaign
  • Participate in the recruitment of new volunteers
  • Ensure timesheets and mileage reports are submitted accurately and timely (bi-weekly basis)
  • Respond to questions/queries from volunteers.

Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Internal: TSA staff members, Kettle campaign team

External: Community members

Managerial Responsibility

  • Reports directly to Volunteer & Kettle Coordinator
  • Assists in the supervision of Kettle Runners and Kettle volunteers

Financial And Materials Management

  • Collect donations in accordance to policies and procedures ensuring donations are always kept secure.

Working Conditions

  • Work environment is a typical office environment and typically in malls/stores

  • Some high school coursework, completion of high school is an asset

Experience

  • A minimum of one year of related experience or working in customer service
  • Money handling experience is an asset
  • Related experience is an asset

Skills/capabilities

  • Must have a solid understanding of basic to intermediate computer operation including Microsoft 365 programs, data entry, internet browsers, and some file management and ability to create reports.
  • Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
  • Be a positive and outgoing representative of The Salvation Army Okanagan Central
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to provide an original copy of a Background Check that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required, including Child Check (if appropriate).
  • A Driver’s Abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required
  • Valid driver’s licence and a reliable vehicle required
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Enthusiastic Team Player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Able to lift 9 to 12 kgs (20 – 25 lbs)
  • Strong people skills; enjoys liaising and working with people of all ages and abilities
  • Willingness to be flexible and work well under pressure with daily timelines and changing priorities
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality in the handling of donor, volunteer, and organizational information

Compensation The target hiring range for this position is $17.85 to $20.64 with a maximum of $24.77.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
