About the role
Summary:
As the Head of Oncology Medical Affairs, you will serve as a key leader within the medical organization, guiding cross-functional teams to develop and implement patient-focused medical strategies aligned with the oncology therapeutic area. Your leadership will play a critical role in shaping the broader organizational plan, supporting successful product launches, ensuring appropriate clinical use, and driving access initiatives in partnership with commercial colleagues. In this role, you will also represent the local affiliate on the Global Oncology Leadership Team, ensuring that the country’s perspective contributes meaningfully to global oncology planning and decision-making.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design, execution, and oversight of integrated Oncology Medical Affairs plans, including robust national external engagement strategies
- Represent the local affiliate on the global oncology leadership team, ensuring national insights help shape global strategic direction
- Collaborate with cross-functional partners across commercial, market access, and patient engagement functions to address external expert and patient needs, supporting effective product launches and responsible use
- Align closely with Clinical Development and global teams to ensure that clinical trials, evidence generation, and data plans support brand and therapeutic strategies
- Oversee the planning and execution of both company-supported and investigator-initiated clinical research initiatives
- Partner with regulatory colleagues to shape sustainable filing strategies and optimize product labeling for the national context
- Serve as the lead Medical Affairs representative for oncology in engagements with physician groups, advocacy organizations, and other key external stakeholders
- Provide medical and scientific insights on competitor products to inform commercial and brand planning with balanced, evidence-based input
- Proactively identify and address compliance risks related to governance, policy, and operational execution
- Contribute as an active member of the Medical Affairs leadership team and broader enterprise leadership forums
Basic Qualification
- Master’s Degree with significant industry experience, or a PhD/MD. Oncology experience preferred but not required
- 10 years of progressive experience in a related field/function, including leadership role
- Experience in the pharmaceutical industry leading a Medical Affairs Team
Preferred Qualification
- Fully bilingual in English and French, both written and spoken
- Advanced degree (PhD or MD)Strong understanding of the full drug development lifecycle, including regulatory processes and clinical trial design
- In-depth knowledge of the Canadian healthcare landscape, including current trends, system challenges, and payer and stakeholder priorities
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with and influence senior-level stakeholders, both internally and externally
- Strategic mindset with a proven track record of developing and executing complex plans while managing short- and long-term priorities
- Ability to translate broader business goals into effective market access and medical strategies
- Skilled in managing diverse portfolios and making informed decisions when navigating competing project demands
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, able to lead cross-functional teams, inspire high performance, and drive alignment through open dialogue
- Self-starter who is proactive, resilient, and unafraid to question established approaches
- Creative and solutions-focused, with a pragmatic approach to overcoming challenges
- Familiarity with oncology or specialty medicine portfolios considered an asset
