Job Title: Red Seal Journeyman Carpenter
Location: Various Job Sites throughout Calgary and Alberta Employment Type: Full-time
Position Overview
The Journeyman Carpenter will operate fully independently, handling complex construction and renovation projects. This position requires advanced carpentry skills and the ability to manage full aspects of construction tasks without supervision. The journeyman will lead efforts in framing, interior finishing, and other specialized construction areas, demonstrating high-level craftsmanship and project management abilities.
Responsibilities
● Lead and execute construction projects independently. ● Plan and organize job sites, ensuring materials and tools are prepared before the commencement of work. ● Oversee material inventory and secure equipment at job sites. ● Maintain tools and equipment, ensuring they are in optimal working condition. ● Perform advanced construction tasks including sophisticated floor coverings, intricate framing, detailed carpentry work, concrete finishing, exterior cladding, deck building, and comprehensive window and door installations. ● Expertly operate a wide range of hand and power tools. ● Execute precise measurements, cuts, and assemblies of wood, metal, and other materials. ● Independently install complex fixtures and structural elements. ● Uphold the highest standards of safety, quality, and efficiency on the job site. ● Serve as a point of contact for team members, subcontractors, and homeowners, ensuring clear and effective communication. ● Mentor apprentices and less experienced carpenters, imparting skills and best practices.
Requirements
● Physical ability to perform strenuous manual labor. ● Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and lead projects. ● Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills. ● Mastery of hand and power tools relevant to advanced carpentry. ● Must have a class 5 driver’s license and reliable means of transportation to various job sites. ● Must own a functioning cell phone for communication. ● Proven work ethic, meticulous attention to detail, and unwavering reliability. ● Commitment to continuous learning and professional development in the carpentry field.
Education and Experience
● High school diploma or equivalent. ● Must hold a redseal journeyman carpentry ticket with a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a carpentry apprenticeship or similar role, with significant experience working independently as a journeyman.
Working Conditions
● Work assignments can occur indoors and outdoors, under varying environmental conditions. ● The role demands a high level of physical fitness and endurance.
Compensation
Starting at $37.50/hour depending on experience including 1.5X overtime as per Alberta Labor Standards.
