TheDirector, Portfolio Analyticsleads the CIO Office Portfolio Analytics function in BMOLA, providing senior‑level quantitative insight that shapes how investment risks, trade‑offs, and balance‑sheet implications are analyzed and communicated across the organization. The role is responsible for setting the analytical agenda, governing core frameworks, and ensuring that investment discussions are supported by robust, consistent, and decision‑ready analysis.

The Director ensures that analytics meaningfully connect market dynamics, portfolio outcomes, liabilities, capital, and surplus, elevating the quality of investment deliberation.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership of Portfolio Analytics

  • Lead the Portfolio Analytics team.
  • Develop the analytical vision and priorities for the CIO Office, aligned with investment strategy and balance‑sheet objectives.
  • Set and develop methodological standards across portfolio risk, ALM, trade quantification, and balance‑sheet analytics.
  • Act as the senior point of accountability for analytical integrity, consistency, and relevance.

ALM, Discount Curve & Liability Analytics Oversight

  • Provide senior oversight of discount curve development and governance, ensuring alignment between investment, ALM, actuarial, and risk perspectives.
  • Guide asset‑liability analytics covering duration, convexity, KRDs, cash‑flow mismatches, and scenario sensitivities.
  • Shape how liability dynamics and curve movements are incorporated into portfolio construction and rebalancing discussions.

Trade Quantification & Portfolio Decision Support

  • Own the pre‑trade and post‑trade analytics framework used to evaluate rebalancing, new investments, and strategic portfolio changes.
  • Review trade analytics presented to the CIO, ALCO, and investment committees.

Balance Sheet Optimization, Capital & Surplus Analytics

  • Lead analysis linking portfolio construction to capital efficiency, surplus volatility, and downside risk.
  • Ensure balance‑sheet metrics are integrated into asset allocation, relative‑value, and optimization discussions.
  • Support senior investment leadership in understanding risk‑reward trade‑offs under capital and liquidity constraints.

Risk, Reporting & Dashboard Strategy

  • Own the design philosophy and content standards for CIO‑level dashboards and reporting.
  • Balance analytical depth with clarity and usability for senior stakeholders.
  • Drive automation, standardization, and transparency across reporting views.

Data, Systems & Governance Partnership

  • Act as the business owner for portfolio analytics systems and tools, ensuring analytics move from prototype to production‑grade implementation.
  • Work with across functions technology, data, and platform teams to ensure analytics are supported by robust, scalable, and well‑governed data infrastructure.
  • Ensure strong controls, documentation, and auditability for analytics.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Mathematics, Engineering, Economics, or related field; CFA or advanced degree strongly preferred.
  • 8+ years of experience in insurance investments, portfolio analytics, ALM, risk analytics, or investment strategy.
  • Strong working knowledge of Python‑based analytics, with ability to review and challenge models and code.
  • Deep familiarity with dashboards, reporting systems, and analytics platforms.
  • Strong appreciation of data architecture, governance, and system dependencies.
  • Demonstrated experience operating in a front‑office or CIO‑level environment.
  • Expert‑level understanding of portfolio analytics, scenario analysis, and risk decomposition.

Salary:

$86,000.00 - $160,000.00

Pay Type:

Salaried

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.

BMO Financial Group’s total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
