Position Summary

Reporting to the Foreman, Parks Services, the Labourer II position performs a wide variety of work functions within the Public Works Department in the winter months. This position uses safe work practices and procedures to carry out assigned tasks and contributes to the overall effectiveness of the work team.

Responsibilities

include, but are not limited to:

  • Operation of hand shovels, chippers and light duty equipment in a safe and efficient manner used in the maintenance of bus stops/shelters, parks, trails, sidewalks, outdoor rinks, and open spaces.
  • Performing pre-equipment inspections and servicing of vehicles and equipment at the end of each day.
  • Assist with the opening and closing of graves, cremations, and the columbarium.
  • Maintain positive public relations and to provide assistance and information services to the public as required.
  • Ensure facilities are unlocked, and/or secured in accordance to all schedules, policies and procedures.
  • Control of loose litter on highways, trails and buffers as well as the emptying of garbage receptacles throughout the entire City.

Qualifications

The successful candidate must have an Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License and a High School Diploma. Experience in the operation and servicing of parks maintenance and snow removal equipment is required. Good organizational and excellent customer service skills, with the ability to comprehend and communicate detailed instructions orally and in writing are essential. This is a physically demanding position; incumbents will be required to work in a variety of adverse weather conditions.

This position is within the scope of C.U.P.E. Local 30, and as such, you will be required to adhere to the articles contained within the Collective Agreement. The successful candidate will be required to provide a current Driver’s Abstract at time of interview.

Hours of Work: Varying shifts, working 8 hours per day (40 hours per week)

Duration: November 4, 2025 – March 31, 2026
