Salary About the role Join a dynamic team as a Lab Engineer at a confidential telecom R&D lab, where you'll ensure the reliable operations of the network, servers, license services, and physical assets. This exciting opportunity involves working fully on-site in Kanata, collaborating closely with IT and engineering teams to troubleshoot networking issues, manage license servers, optimize compute resources, and maintain the CMDB. You'll be an integral part of advancing the research and development in telecommunications.
Responsibilities
- Ensure optimal operation of the lab network in collaboration with IT and lab users
- Troubleshoot L2/L3 networking (VLANs, routing/switching), DHCP/DNS, and IP subnetting issues
- Manage and maintain engineering software license servers (e.g., FlexLM/FlexNet, RLM), including compliance and utilization tracking
- Administer Windows and/or Linux servers; monitor and optimize compute, memory, and storage resources
- Support virtualization platforms for lab environments (e.g., VMware ESXi, Proxmox)
- Maintain lab physical asset inventory/CMDB (e.g., ServiceNow, GLPI), including tagging, audits, and lifecycle tracking
- Document lab infrastructure, changes, and SOPs; collaborate cross-functionally with engineering teams
Requirements
- Must be based in Canada, eligible to work, and willing to relocate to Kanata, Ontario
- 3+ years of experience in IT lab operations, network/system administration, or similar supporting engineering/R&D teams
- Experience with L2/L3 networking including VLANs, routing/switching, and IP subnetting
- Hands-on experience administering DHCP and DNS services
- Experience managing engineering software license servers and administering Windows and/or Linux servers
Preferred Skills
- Experience with virtualization platforms or containerization
- Experience in telecom/networking equipment R&D labs; familiarity with the Nokia ecosystem is a plus
- Experience with documentation and ITSM tools/workflows (e.g., Jira/Confluence)
