About the role
Provide a high-quality academic environment using appropriate teaching and learning techniques in compliance with college policies, procedures, provincial regulations, and accreditation standards. Responsible for the instructional delivery of an assigned course of study, including facilitating material, communicating with students, tracking attendance, guiding activities, evaluating assessments, and corresponding with the college staff.
MASTERY OF SUBJECT MATTER
Stay informed about changes and innovations in their field, subject, and industry.
Adopt “best practices” employed by other mentors, and share “best practices” with others.
Participate in Program Advisory committees, as requested, to update curriculum to industry standards.
TEACHING PERFORMANCE
Plan, prepare, and deliver quality classroom instruction utilizing the approved curriculum and delivery modality.
Inform students about course requirements, evaluation procedures, and policies.
Incorporate active learning techniques to ensure the various learning needs of the individual students are met.
Develop/follow an instructional plan (lesson plan) for the course(s) and ensure that it meets industry, college and department standards.
Keep up-to-date with, and effectively use, relevant technology and media in classes.
Deliver dynamic and engaging lessons and use effective motivation to help stimulate a personal desire in students to learn the subject/skill(s).
Modify, where appropriate, instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse student needs.
Use real-world examples to teach terms, concepts, and principles.
Respect the knowledge and experience adult learners bring to the classroom; different viewpoints are presented; diverse backgrounds are considered; distinction is made between fact and personal opinion.
Provide students with academic support and refer them to additional assistance as required.
Motivate students by demonstrating sensitivity for their concerns and actively involving them in classroom discussions and/or activities.
Be courteous, positive, approachable, and professional.
Lead by example by being a role model, both personally and professionally.
Promote a positive classroom environment.
Hold weekly office/open hours as directed by the campus.
SUPPORT OF COLLEGE POLICIES, PROCEDURES, AND PROCESSES
Be responsible and accountable for the accuracy of student records in the student management system (Brightspace), including accurate and timely submission of all attendance reports, grades, student advising forms, and at-risk forms, according to established guidelines.
Act as a mentor for students by developing action plans to assist students in achieving their goals, following college policies and procedures.
Protect the confidentiality of student information, including educational records, personal circumstances, academic progress, and personal data from other students and individuals, unless written authorization is obtained from the student.
PARTICIPATION IN COLLEGE, DIVISION, AND PROGRAM ACTIVITIES
Attend faculty/staff meetings and Professional Development Workshops.
Perform other duties/participate in special projects as assigned.
Support active interdepartmental cooperation with other departments such as Admissions, Financial Aid, Practicum, and Career Services.
QUALIFICATIONS
A minimum of 2-3 years of experience as a Veterinary Assistant or Registered Veterinary Technician.
Completion of a Veterinary Assistant diploma or equivalent; degree preferred.
Teaching experience/a certificate in adult education
Able to engage and motivate students with an interactive instructional approach.
Able to adapt, administer, and evaluate student assessments.
Able to learn quickly and adapt to new environments.
Able to use Microsoft Office and standard computer applications; experience with Google Workspace is an asset..
A high standard of work ethic and professionalism.
Experience with Brightspace, D2L is an asset.
Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
Commitment to ongoing professional development and continuous improvement.

Candidates must be local or within driving distance to Winnipeg, as this position is in-person, face-to-face at the Robertson College, 180 Main Street in Winnipeg. Each course will take approximately 20-30 hours per week to instruct, though this can vary based on instructor experience.
