About the role

The Centre for Clinical Ethics (CCE) is part of Unity Health Toronto and provides clinical ethics services to 12 healthcare organizations in the GTHA. The CCE also has a longstanding clinical ethics fellowship program through the University of Toronto. The CCE seeks for a permanent full time Clinical Ethicist to support the ethics program at Unity Health Toronto with a focus at the St. Joseph’s Health Centre site

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide clinical ethics consultations
  • Provide education to health care professionals and students in the clinical setting
  • Supervise clinical ethics fellows while on rotation at Unity Health
  • Assist in the development of policy
  • Support relevant committees and working groups
  • Contribute to bioethics scholarship

Key Qualifications:

  • A graduate degree (e.g. Ph.D., or M.A.) in bioethics or in a field of study that is related to and reflects a concentration in bioethics (e.g. law, theology, religious studies, philosophy) required. Clinicians with graduate training in bioethics are also encouraged to apply
  • Strong clinical and organizational ethics experience in a hospital or health care environment required (minimum 2 years of experience preferred)
  • A completed fellowship with a focus in clinical and organizational ethics preferred.
  • Knowledge of the Catholic moral tradition and Catholic bioethics.
  • Experience in research ethics required
  • Demonstrated scholarship in the area of bioethics
  • A strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills/relationship building and the ability to work collegially
  • Sound judgment and facilitation skills.
  • Satisfactory attendance record.
