MDS Aero Support is seeking a dynamic and technically skilled Mechanical Systems Engineer to join our Systems Engineering team. This role goes beyond technical proficiency—it's about unifying multidisciplinary teams, translating complex concepts across stakeholder levels, and driving engineering excellence in gas turbine test systems.
Position Overview
This role is central to the successful delivery of advanced gas turbine engine test facilities. It involves leading and integrating the mechanical scope of projects—including fluid systems, structural components, and mechanical interfaces—while coordinating with interdisciplinary teams.
The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in mechanical systems along with an ability to drive engineering execution, build rapport with cross-functional teams, and communicate technical decisions clearly to a wide range of stakeholders. This individual will play a vital role in organizing mechanical activities and ensuring that project delivery meets technical, cost, and schedule targets. They will be expected to drive mechanical systems scope forward to success with a proactive, solution-focused mindset.
What You’ll Be Doing
Project Technical Leadership
- Lead the interpretation of contract technical requirements and translate them into detailed project specifications, system-level plans, work breakdown structures, and requirement matrices.
- Develop technical execution strategy on measurement systems across design, procurement, manufacturing, assembly, installation, commissioning, and validation phases.
- Communicate and drive execution strategies to multidisciplinary teams; monitor and manage deliverables to meet project objectives on time and within scope.
- Coordinate technical effort across internal disciplines and with clients, vendors, and subcontractors to ensure technical integration and smooth interface management.
- Drive projects forward to success by anticipating roadblocks, resolving technical challenges, and maintaining strong team momentum.
- Support interface definition and integration across subsystems (e.g., piping, frames, cooling systems, test article mounts).
Mechanical Systems Focus
- Support the design of complex mechanical and structural systems including high-temperature ducting, process piping, and acoustic enclosures.
- Support rotordynamic system design and mechanical integration of turbines, compressors, or test articles.
- Review vendor designs and fabrication drawings for mechanical systems to ensure compliance with project and quality standards.
- Ensure design for manufacturability, maintainability, and safety throughout mechanical systems development.
- Participate in system commissioning and troubleshooting of mechanical performance issues on-site.
Team Engagement & Communication
- Collaborate with experienced engineers, project managers, and operations teams to ensure smooth execution of mechanical tasks.
- Communicate complex mechanical concepts clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Participate in or lead design reviews and actively contribute to problem-solving discussions.
- Support knowledge sharing and contribute to continuous improvement in engineering workflows.
- Help mentor junior engineers and engage with customers during technical meetings and installations.
Oversight, Governance & Travel
- Track and manage mechanical scope within project cost, schedule, risk, and quality constraints.
- Own mechanical layout and general arrangement drawings and system-level documentation across disciplines.
- Travel to client sites for design reviews, equipment inspections, commissioning, and validation when required.
- Serve as the key liaison during critical installation milestones and handovers.

- Strong understanding of design standards and codes (ASME, ISO, etc.).
- Familiar with mechanical CAD tools and analysis software (e.g., ANSYS, Plant3D, RevIT).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to engage teams and explain design intent.
- Ability and willingness to travel internationally as needed.
Nice-to-Have
- Experience with aerospace, industrial test facilities, or gas turbine systems.
- Familiarity with manufacturing, welding, and quality control processes.
- Exposure to instrumentation or controls engineering as it relates to mechanical systems.
- Multilingual communication skills considered an asset.
What You Bring
- A technical mind that thrives in complexity, and a personality that builds trust and cohesion across teams.
- A problem-solver’s mindset, able to pivot and adapt quickly while maintaining focus on objectives.
- A strong belief in continuous improvement, knowledge sharing, and technical mentorship.
- A respectful, low-ego approach when working with senior experts and legacy knowledge.
- Ability to influence outcomes across disciplines through trust, logic, and calm communication.
- A systems mindset capable of delivering engineered solutions to real-world challenges.
- A strong presence in technical discussions, backed by logic, practical insight, and a collaborative approach.
- An ability to organize teams, tasks, and technical efforts to keep projects on track.
- A commitment to safety, reliability, and design excellence in mechanical systems.
