The Opportunity
As a Payroll Administrator, you will be responsible for the end-to-end payroll cycle, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely processing. You will play a key role in supporting employees and management while maintaining strong compliance with Alberta labor laws and tax regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process payroll for full-time, part-time, salaried, and hourly employees (up to 200 employees).
- Collaborate with project teams and IT to ensure timely preparation and approval of timesheets.
- Reconcile hours between systems to ensure completeness.
- Prepare and submit all required government remittances in accordance with Alberta regulations.
- Prepare and manage key payroll documents such as ROEs, T4s, T2200s, PD7A, TD4, and WCB billings.
- Onboard new employees into the ERP system.
- Post daily timesheets and process month-end payroll accruals and journal entries.
- Manage banked overtime, employee advances, and year-end payroll reconciliations.
- Generate payroll reports to support management decision-making and provide payroll insights.
- Respond to payroll-related inquiries from employees, management, and external agencies.
- Stay current on changes to policies, tax laws, labor regulations, and benefit programs.
- Administer employee benefits, RRSP contributions, sign-ups, and terminations.
- Reconcile and process benefit invoices, RRSP and WCB payments.
- Process and pay employee expense reports.
- Perform additional ad-hoc payroll and finance duties as required.
Qualifications & Experience
- 5+ years of payroll experience required.
- Canadian Payroll Association (CPA) designation preferred.
- Strong proficiency in payroll software, ERP systems, and Microsoft Excel.
- Thorough knowledge of payroll principles, accounting best practices, and Alberta labor laws.
- Exceptional accuracy, attention to detail, and analytical skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
- Self-starter with initiative and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Experience with Vista by Viewpoint considered a strong asset.
- This is a full-time, in-office position based in Calgary.
