Overview
The City of Kitchener offers a comprehensive Inclusion Support Program designed to ensure individuals with disabilities can fully participate in recreation and leisure activities.
This role supports the delivery of inclusive recreation and leisure programs and services including support and opportunities for individuals with disabilities participating in City of Kitchener programs and facilities.
The position involves:
- Community development to promote participation and inclusion.
- Consultation and support for individuals, families, and organizations to ensure equitable access.
- Training and resource development for staff, volunteers
- Coordination of Every Kid Counts! Program, including staff coaching ,accommodations, assessments, and marketing
- Responding to accommodation requests and developing accommodation plans
- Administrative tasks reporting and manual creation
Responsibilities
- Ensure the inclusion and participation of people who have disabilities in City of Kitchener, direct and indirect recreation, leisure programs and services.
- Provide consultation, leisure education, behavior interventions, problem solving and mediation to individuals with a disability, caregivers, municipal staff, and affiliates to ensure equitable access to municipal programs and services.
- Develop resources and implement formal and informal training opportunities for municipal staff and volunteers.
- Coordinate and administer Every Kid Counts Program.
- Implement and oversee staff coordination and training, development of program accommodation plans, participant assessments and placements, marketing, grant writing, program consultation and assessment.
- Respond to program accommodation requests from the community.
- Develop and maintain reports, forms and manual development.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- 3-year degree or diploma in Recreation & Leisure Studies, Social Sciences or Social Work.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience working with people with a disability/disability sector
- Provide a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check at your own expense as a condition of employment.
- Experience in staff coordination (training, coaching).
- Valid CPR Level “C” and Standard First Aid Certificate.
- Demonstrated experience and certification in behavior intervention and modification systems (PMAB, NVCI, ABA, BMS).
- Excellent interpersonal written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated skills in conflict resolution and mediation.
- Strong community development and facilitation skills.
- Working knowledge and understanding of disabilities and disability services and organizations in the community.
- Must have experience in grant writing.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends
- Reliable with a good attitude and employment record.
