EDUCATIONAL RESOURCE WORKER (EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANT)

Full Time & Part Time Opportunities Available

Location: Various Schools within Dufferin- Peel

CAT 3 (Certified) - Salary: $54,444.00 - $63,032.00 (as of Sept 1, 2025)

CAT 1 (Uncertified) - Salary: $45,029.00 - $53,491.00 (as of Sept 1, 2025)

POSITION SUMMARY:

Educational Resource Workers work as collaborative team members to facilitate the inclusion of students with differing abilities/diverse learning needs within our schools and is accountable to the School Principal and/or designate.

RESPONSIBILITIES (but not limited to):

Actual duties are assigned as determined by students' needs as per Ministry of Education regulations and Board policies, procedures and practices.

  • Supports the Catholic Board Learning Plan including the commitment to a Catholic Community, Culture and Caring under the direction of the Principal and/or designate as part of the school team.
  • Works collaboratively and in conjunction with the Special Education team, assists in the identification, development and implementation of strategies and programs to support students identified, engagement, well-being and development, learning strengths and challenges and future needs of the student(s) includes personalized supports such as appropriate health/medical response, where training has been provided.
  • Assists the Special Education team in preparing, developing, modifying and individualizing academic materials and well-being materials and resources for students with differing abilities/diverse learning needs as prescribed in the Individual Education Plan (IEP). This also includes the knowledge and use of computer technology and/or other communication supports as deemed appropriate.
  • Collaborates with the Special Education team in the preparation for student planning and facilitates the daily or regularly scheduled inclusion and/or transition activities for students with differing abilities/diverse learning needs.
  • Observes and monitors the performance of students with differing abilities/diverse learning needs and maintains records supporting student identified, engagement, well-being and development, challenges and future needs of the student(s) and communicates data to appropriate Special Education Team members in a confidential manner.
  • Consults, plans, prepares and/or attends meetings, Identification Placement Review Committees (IPRCs), Case Conferences, Individual Education Plans (IEPs), planning and/or Transition Meetings as well as Parent/Guardian Interviews as a member of the Special Education team as appropriate.
  • Implements approved programs for students with differing abilities/diverse learning in accordance with board policy, procedures and/or practices including prescribed guidelines in collaboration with the Special Education team and/or external agencies.
  • Assists with mobility of students with differing abilities/diverse learning needs including lifts, transfers and positioning to facilitate student independence and inclusion, where training has been provided.
  • Administers prescribed medications and approved medical procedures and practices under board protocols and/or guidelines and with appropriate training by Community Care Access Centres or other staff as appropriate. Maintains record of medication and individual health care needs as directed by the Principal and/or designate as appropriate.
  • Administers First Aid, CPR, and Non-Violent Crises Intervention, in accordance with board protocols and/or and procedures, where qualified.
  • Delivers approved physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy exercises recommend by a qualified health care professional for students with differing abilities/diverse learning needs.
  • Collaborates with the Special Education team and/or external agencies to support students with differing abilities/diverse learning needs in the development of skills in the areas of communication, academic, living, social, fine motor, gross motor self-care skills. Implements approved behaviour management and other plans and/or programs as directed and as appropriate.
  • Supports students with differing abilities/diverse learning needs with personal care routines such as feeding, toileting, dressing, grooming, hygiene and so on within the daily program. Promotes selfcare for the students as required.
  • Attends, engages in and actively participates in staff meetings and professional development opportunities and aligned activities.
  • Supervises and supports learning for students with differing abilities/diverse learning needs activities as part of the workday schedule, including excursions and school to work programs and/or personalized learning experiences as appropriate.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Principal.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Category 3 - Certified

  • Diploma in Early Childhood Education (ECE), Educational Assistant (EA), or equivalent as deemed by the Employer.

Category 1 Uncertified

  • Secondary school diploma with entry level knowledge of Early Childhood Education (ECE} (EA) practices. 1 Year experience working with students with differing abilities/diverse learning needs preferred.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS/ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE:

  • Ability to work with differing abilities/diverse learning needs
  • Strong interpersonal skills, good communication skills, good organizational skills, and the ability to work as team member,
  • High degree of sensitivity and diplomacy,
  • Flexibility,
  • Experience in use of computer technology and/or other communication supports as appropriate
  • Ability to deal with potentially stressful and emergent situations.
