About the role

Do you have a passion in wastewater operations and have completed your EOCP Wastewater Treatment Certificate? Do you have excellent problem solving, analysis and judgement skills? If so, we want you on our DevelopmentEngineering Services Team!

As the successful candidate as the Treatment Plant Operator, you will be responsible for assisting with the daily operation and maintenance of the Wastewater Treatment Plant in accordance with Ministry of Environment regulations.

You will:

  • Provide required daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance to operate the plant, as identified in the various operation and maintenance (O&M) manuals. Duties include:

  • Operate biosolids dewatering equipment.

  • Perform preventative maintenance and repairs.

  • Troubleshoot process equipment and make records of all adjustments.

  • Monitor, operate, and make adjustments to the SCADA and PLC systems.

  • Perform rounds to monitor the operation and performance of the plant, report information and recommend maintenance changes to the Senior Treatment Plant Operator.

  • Monitor and make necessary operational adjustments to the BNR process under the direction of the Senior Operator to meet the requirements of the Operating Certificate issued by the Province of BC, maintain compliance with environmental criteria, and minimize risks to public health.

  • Assist other staff and the Senior Treatment Plant Operator.

  • Coordinate contractor's schedules and monitor work performance.

  • Respond to emergency or call out situations as a member of 24/7 standby rotation for continuous operation of the treatment plant.

  • Recommend the purchase of materials, supplies, and equipment required for plant operation.

  • Data collection, input, and reporting for various purposes.

  • Research, plan, and seek approval to maintain and progress certification levels.

  • Other related duties as assigned.

Our preferred candidate will have completed their Level 2 wastewater treatment certification, however applicants with Level 1 certification or an EOCP wastewater treatment operator in training certificate will be considered. Candidates are required to be a member in good standing of the Environmental Operators Certification Program (EOCP), have a minimum of 1 year of related work experience and hold a valid BC Driver's License. You will have excellent communication, time management, and prioritization skills and be able to work both independently, unsupervised and within a team environment.

The hourly rate of pay for this unionized CUPE 338 position will be based on the level of qualifications in EOCP and years of experience. Operator-In-Training (OIT) $35.27/hr; Operator Level I $39.35/hr; Operator Level II $41.56/hr and includes a comprehensive benefits package including, dental, health and vision benefits, paid vacation, pension plan, training and development, opportunities for advancement, work-life balance, on-site parking, and the opportunity to contribute and make a change within the community. A probation rate of 90% applies to the three-month probation period.

This position is 40 hours per week with a schedule of Tuesday to Saturday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. On-call work will be required to meet operational demands on a rotational basis.
