SENIOR DIRECTOR (7+ years Corporate / Commercial experience)
About the role
Our client, Loblaw Companies Limited (“Loblaw”) is Canada’s food and pharmacy leader and the nation’s largest retailer. With a network of 2,500 corporate and independently-operated stores in communities across the country, it employs close to 200,000 Canadians, making it one of Canada’s largest private sector employers. Recently named as one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers (2024), Greater Toronto’s Top Employers (2024), and Canada’s Best Diversity Employers (2024), Loblaw clearly values and respects its employees and has created an excellent environment in which to work.
Loblaw continues to anticipate and deliver on customers’ needs in a rapidly evolving industry – harnessing technology and relationships to deliver new and exciting multi-channel, personalized shopping experiences, and the Legal department plays an important role in the development of this strategy. Supporting business groups on legal, risk and strategic issues, the department is now seeking a senior legal counsel to provide corporate / commercial contracting support to various lines of business including Loblaw Digital, Loblaw Technology, Loyalty and Loblaw Media. Working closely with these groups, this counsel will negotiate, draft, and advise on a wide range of commercial contracts and issues including technology and privacy, and participate in projects related to the development of new and innovative products and services. In addition, you will manage a small team of talented, motivated counsel. This individual will report to the VP, Legal, and have the opportunity to split time between Loblaw’s head office in Brampton as well as its office at Bathurst St. and Lake Shore Blvd. West in a hybrid arrangement.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 7 years of commercial and general corporate experience gained from a major firm and/or corporation. Experience supporting digital, e-commerce and emerging technologies will be seen as an asset, as well as French language skills. Excellent strategizing, negotiation and drafting skills as well as experience working independently will be required. Strong time management skills, the ability to prioritize competing projects and a natural curiosity will be needed in this busy and varied practice. You must also have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to develop strong relationships with multiple stakeholders across all levels of the organization. Lastly, as a senior contributor, leadership and managerial skills as well as the ability to strategize will be mandatory.
Loblaw is committed to being socially responsible by respecting the environment, sourcing with integrity, making a positive difference in its communities, reflecting our nation’s diversity, and being a great place to work. If you are a constant learner determined to pursue excellence and ready to work in a dynamic environment, we invite you to apply.
